Trump’s Alaska Summit
Trump will meet Putin on August 16 in Alaska to discuss a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump warned of possible economic sanctions if Putin rejects peace talks. Beforehand, Trump spoke with European leaders and Ukraine’s Zelenskiy, agreeing Ukraine must be involved in negotiations.
Putin demands Ukraine withdraw troops from four regions and drop NATO ambitions; Kyiv rejects this. European leaders insist no territory be ceded without Ukraine’s consent and oppose border changes by force. Recent Russian advances have intensified the conflict, now over three and a half years old.
Treasury Secretary Bessent stated sanctions could tighten or ease based on the summit’s outcome. The meeting aims to pave the way for a second summit including Zelenskiy.

Apple’s rumored Face-ID door lock and smart display hub are more than just new products. It’s a clear signal: they’re going all-in on smart home automation. The tech giant is doubling down on the smart home, the $158B industry that’s growing 23% annually. And with Apple’s entry, investors are looking for the next breakout company - and potential acquisition target.
They’re chasing Google (acquired Nest, $3.2B) and Amazon (acquired Ring, $1.2B). History shows: when Apple plays catch-up, they go big. And there’s one startup perfectly positioned to benefit.
With 10+ patents, distribution in over 100 Best Buy stores, and revenue growth that doubled year-over-year, they’re built for a huge breakout. Early investors in Ring and Nest saw life-changing returns.

Meta faces heavy AI talent losses since 2024, with retention at 64%, lower than competitors Anthropic (80%) and OpenAI (67%). Meta reorganized AI teams in 2023, prioritizing product GenAI over FAIR, fueling internal chaos and unclear priorities. Its Llama 4 AI release disappointed experts amid disputed benchmark claims. Meta’s CEO is aggressively hiring with multi-hundred-million-dollar offers, while critics label this a mercenary approach.
China’s DeepSeek delayed AI model rollout due to Huawei chip limitations, highlighting challenges in replacing U.S. AI tech. The AI industry faces talent, innovation, and geopolitical pressures.

U.S. Embeds Hidden Trackers in AI Chip Shipments
The U.S. embeds hidden location trackers in selected AI chip shipments from Nvidia and AMD within Dell and Super Micro servers to detect illegal exports to China, restricted since 2022 to curb military tech transfer.
Trackers range from smartphone-sized devices on packages to ones concealed inside servers. This tactic supports enforcement by agencies including Commerce, Homeland Security, and the FBI, used with administrative or judicial approval.
Smugglers actively seek and remove trackers, as revealed in a 2024 case involving Dell servers. Nvidia and AMD share 15% of sales revenue with the U.S. for export licenses. Restrictions also target Russia, monitoring smuggling routes through Malaysia, Singapore, and the UAE.

Bitcoin at All Time High
Bitcoin reached a new high of $124,000 fueled by U.S. regulatory support allowing crypto in 401(k) plans and stablecoin reforms. The crypto exchange Bullish raised $1.1 billion in its IPO, valuing the company at $5.4 billion.
Bitcoin is up nearly 32% in 2025 amid crypto-friendly policies from the Trump administration and expectations of Federal Reserve interest rate cuts.
The total crypto market cap grew from $2.5 trillion in November 2024 to $4.18 trillion by mid-2025, reflecting rising institutional and retail demand. Analysts warn volatility risks as crypto enters retirement portfolios traditionally dominated by stocks and bonds.

How the Brain Tunes Our Sense of Touch
Researchers discovered a feedback loop between the thalamus and somatosensory cortex that adjusts touch sensitivity by modulating pyramidal neuron responsiveness.
Thalamic projections release glutamate, which primes neurons to respond more strongly to future touch stimuli rather than directly exciting them. Experiments with mice showed this mechanism amplifies excitability via dendritic receptors, explaining why the same touch can vary in sensation.
The thalamus actively modulates sensory processing, influencing perception fluctuations during sleep and wakefulness. This circuit offers new insights into altered sensory sensitivity in disorders like autism spectrum disorder by controlling neuron excitability in real time.

Young Blood and Bone Marrow
Young human blood serum alone does not affect aging skin, but combined with bone marrow cells, it triggers production of 55 proteins linked to skin rejuvenation. Seven of these proteins enhance skin cell division, collagen synthesis, and mitochondrial function.
Using organ-on-a-chip models simulating human skin and bone marrow, researchers showed young serum reprograms bone marrow stem cells to reduce skin’s biological age. This approach builds on animal studies where young blood reversed aging, and aligns with clinical trials showing umbilical cord plasma lowers biological age in older adults.
Potential therapies may use bone marrow–derived proteins or engineered marrow to restore aging tissues, though effects in living humans remain unproven and require further study.

“Some men will sit and think so hard about the ten different ways to escape a burning building that they end up as a well-considered pile of ash. Then there are other fellows who are built backwards; give them a week to solve a problem and they'll get it all wrong, but set their house on fire and they will invent a new and brilliant way to put it out on the spot.”
