Nvidia and AMD to Hand Over 15% of China AI Chip Sales to U.S. Government

Nvidia and AMD will pay the U.S. government 15% of their AI chip sales revenue from China, tied to export licenses for advanced chips like Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308.

Nvidia earned $17 billion and AMD $6.2 billion from China in fiscal 2024, representing 13% and 24% of their total revenues, respectively. The deal follows a 2025 sales halt imposed by the previous administration and was secured after Nvidia’s CEO met President Trump.

While officials see no national security risks, critics view it as trading security for revenue. Nvidia lost $4.5 billion in revenue in one quarter due to the prior ban. The U.S. government’s use of the collected funds remains undisclosed.

Do you think the U.S. government taking 15% revenue from Nvidia and AMD’s China AI chip sales is a fair trade-off for maintaining market access?

This company holds 29,000 hectares (over 71,000 acres) in the heart of a modern-day gold rush. Exploration targets have already been identified as a result of locals' artisanal mining (a recent 108 grams per tonne gold* assay has been recorded) and funds have just been raised for an initial 10,000 metre (over 32,000 feet) drill program seeking to unlock the potential for a multi-million ounce gold deposit. 1 gram per tonne is broadly regarded as being commercial

Ukraine’s Counter Proposal

Russia demands Ukraine cede Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea for a full ceasefire. Ukraine and European leaders reject this, insisting on ceasefire first and inclusion in talks.

Zelensky refuses territorial concessions, calling any deal excluding Ukraine “stillborn.” Ahead of the August 15 Trump-Putin summit, concerns grow that Kyiv and Europe may be sidelined. France, Spain, Finland, and NATO reaffirm support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, rejecting legal recognition of Russian control despite possible de facto status.

Russia controls about 20% of Ukraine, including Crimea and parts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. Russian strikes continue amid stalled diplomacy. Western analysts note Russian territorial gains in July at high casualties.

How do you view the role of U.S. involvement in mediating peace between Ukraine and Russia?

Big investors are buying this “unlisted” stock

When the founder who sold his last company to Zillow for $120M starts a new venture, people notice. That’s why the same VCs who backed Uber, Venmo, and eBay also invested in Pacaso.

Disrupting the real estate industry once again, Pacaso’s streamlined platform offers co-ownership of premier properties, revamping the $1.3T vacation home market.

And it works. By handing keys to 2,000+ happy homeowners, Pacaso has already made $110M+ in gross profits in their operating history.

Now, after 41% YoY gross profit growth last year alone, they recently reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

Lithium Market Surges

CATL suspended production at its Yichun lithium mine due to an expired mining license, halting output of 46,000 metric tons annually, about 3% of global lithium supply. The company is seeking license renewal to resume operations.

The shutdown triggered an 8% jump in lithium prices on China’s futures exchange and boosts in lithium miner shares, including Tianqi Lithium (+19%) and Ganfeng Lithium (+21%). Australian miners gained 10.5% to nearly 25%.

The halt aligns with Beijing’s crackdown on overcapacity amid lithium price volatility, which saw a 90% decline since 2022 due to oversupply and weaker EV demand. The stoppage may ease oversupply and support prices.

Do you think CATL’s suspension of lithium production will have a lasting impact on global lithium prices?

AI Memory Market Set to Soar

SK Hynix projects the AI memory chip market, especially high-bandwidth memory (HBM), will grow 30% annually through 2030.

Big tech firms like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are increasing AI infrastructure spending, driving demand for customized HBM chips, which stack memory vertically for space and power efficiency. SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron are developing next-gen HBM4 chips with tailored features for clients like Nvidia.

Samsung warns of short-term oversupply in HBM3E chips, while SK Hynix expects HBM4 prices to rise due to customization. U.S. tariffs could hit 100%, but SK Hynix and Samsung may be exempt due to U.S. manufacturing. SK Hynix shares have risen 52.4% this year.

Do you agree that investing heavily in AI memory chips with 30% annual growth is a sustainable business strategy?

Immune Cells Alzheimer’s Defense

Researchers identified the ADGRG1 receptor on microglia, brain immune cells that clear amyloid beta plaques linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

Higher ADGRG1 levels correlate with fewer plaques and milder symptoms, while low levels associate with rapid plaque buildup and severe memory loss. Mouse studies confirmed that absence of ADGRG1 accelerates plaque formation, neurodegeneration, and cognitive decline.

ADGRG1 is a G protein-coupled receptor, a druggable target family, making it promising for Alzheimer’s therapy development. Enhancing ADGRG1 activity could boost microglia’s natural plaque-clearing ability, potentially slowing or preventing Alzheimer’s progression.

Given that microglia naturally clear toxic plaques, should Alzheimer’s research focus more on enhancing the brain’s own defenses rather than developing entirely new drug compounds?

Genetic Clues to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

DecodeME analyzed genetics of 16,000+ ME/CFS patients, identifying eight gene signals linked to immune response and brain function. Three signals relate to infection response; one overlaps a chronic pain gene.

Findings were confirmed in 13,000+ cases but not in another 14,000-case dataset, likely due to diagnostic inconsistency. The variants raise ME/CFS risk but aren't exclusive to patients.

Most participants were female and of European descent. Genes active in brain and immune tissues support biological origins over psychosomatic theories.

Results provide a foundation for future diagnostics and drug development, potentially aiding millions affected by this debilitating illness worldwide.

How convincing do you find the evidence that ME/CFS has a biological genetic basis rather than being primarily psychosomatic?

There are two kinds of fools who never get a job done right: first, there's the common fool, who is in such a powerful hurry that he starts building his house from the roof down.
