Gaza Full Occupation

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is considering a full military takeover of Gaza to defeat Hamas, free 50 hostages, and prevent attacks, reversing Israel’s 2005 withdrawal.

The conflict has lasted nearly 22 months, with over 61,000 Palestinian deaths (Hamas militants and civilians).

Aid deliveries remain limited due to blockade and military actions. Israel controls 75% of Gaza, but army chief Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir opposes this. Disagreements within Israel’s leadership raise uncertainty over the next steps.

International calls for a ceasefire have failed. The United Nations calls any expansion of military action "deeply alarming." President Trump deferred to Israel on further military moves.

Do you believe a full Israeli military occupation of Gaza would ultimately lead to lasting peace or further conflict?

US Trade Gap Shrinks, Services Stall, Corporates Feel the Pinch

The US trade deficit fell 16% in June to $60.2 billion, driven by a 70% drop in the US-China gap to $9.5 billion as Chinese imports hit a 14-year low.

Despite 3% GDP growth in Q2 2025, the services sector stalled in July with contracting employment and rising input costs linked to tariffs. Tariffs have squeezed profits, costing global firms $15 billion in 2025.

Companies like Caterpillar, Molson Coors, Yum Brands, and Archer-Daniels Midland reported higher costs and weaker earnings.

The average US tariff rose to 18.3%, the highest since 1934. The S&P 500 hit record highs, but a fall of 7-15% is forecast amid slowing growth and inflation.

The stock market is hitting record highs despite tariff-related challenges. How do you view the market's interpretation of the situation?

Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake

In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.

One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.

Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

OpenAI’s $500 Billion Valuation

OpenAI plans a secondary stock sale valuing the company near $500 billion, up from $300 billion, allowing employees to cash out with buyers like Thrive Capital interested.

Revenue doubled in early 2025, running at a $12 billion annual rate, targeting $20 billion by year-end. ChatGPT’s weekly users grew from 400 million to 700 million between February and August.

OpenAI also released two open-weight models—gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b—matching or surpassing proprietary versions in reasoning, optimized for local use with flexible hardware requirements. Amazon integrated these models into its Bedrock AI marketplace.

OpenAI is restructuring to enable an IPO and emphasizes AI safety through a $500,000 Red Teaming Challenge amid rising competition for AI talent.

Do you believe OpenAI’s valuation of $500 billion fairly reflects the company’s current impact and potential?

Russia Offers Air-Truce

Russia is proposing a halt to drone and missile strikes on Ukraine to U.S. President Trump, aiming to avoid new U.S. sanctions. Despite this offer, combat continues as Russian forces have advanced recently.

The U.S. envoy will deliver Trump’s ultimatum to Moscow, with Friday as the deadline for peace progress before imposing sanctions on Russia and its oil and gas buyers. Recent Russian attacks killed dozens and wounded around 159 in Kyiv, the deadliest since 2022.

Ukraine rejects Russia’s demands to withdraw from territories and limit its military. Previous talks yielded only a prisoner swap. The U.S. may target a covert Russian oil tanker fleet to pressure Putin.

Do you believe that threatening additional sanctions on Russia and its oil buyers will effectively pressure Russia to end the war?

What Blood Biomarkers Reveal About Living to 100

Researchers studied 44,000 people aged 64 to 99 over 35 years, identifying 1,224 who lived to 100 or more, mostly women.

They analyzed 12 blood biomarkers related to aging, finding that lower glucose, creatinine, and uric acid levels in the sixties correlated with reaching 100. High levels of glucose, creatinine, uric acid, and certain liver markers decreased longevity odds, while low cholesterol and iron also lowered chances.

The biggest impact was uric acid: the lowest levels doubled centenarian chances compared to the highest.

Biomarker differences appeared decades before death, suggesting genetics and lifestyle, including nutrition and alcohol, influence exceptional lifespan. Monitoring these markers may support healthy aging.

Sources: Sciencealert.

If you knew your biomarker profile predicted a lower chance of exceptional longevity, would you change your lifestyle?

New Materials to Replace Lithium in Batteries

Researchers used AI combining a Crystal Diffusion Variational Autoencoder and a Large Language Model to identify five new porous transition metal oxide materials for multivalent-ion batteries.

These materials feature large channels allowing efficient movement of magnesium, calcium, aluminum, and zinc ions, which carry multiple charges and store more energy than lithium ions.

The discoveries were confirmed via quantum mechanical simulations and stability tests, showing experimental synthesis feasibility. This approach accelerates materials discovery beyond traditional lab methods.

The team aims to develop commercially viable, low-cost batteries using abundant elements, reducing lithium dependence. This AI-driven method could also impact electronics and clean energy by enabling faster exploration of advanced materials.

Do you think AI is likely to accelerate breakthroughs in materials science more effectively than traditional experimental methods?
