Anna's Daybreak News

Just facts, you think for yourself

How confident are you in the accuracy of U.S. employment data reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)?

  • 45% Very confident
  • 30% Not confident at all
  • 24% Somewhat confident

EmailComments
glan...Used BLS data at work for years and it’s super reliable.
pier...There is always revisions made months later. Not reliable.
krip...It is not just a few people developing these statistics. To my understanding it is several groups and departments combining their knowledge and findings to establish the report. Trump just does not like the truth when it goes against his wishes. He needs to grow up and accept responsibility and stop blaming others.
john...Last year they adjusted down over 800,000. Why can’t they get this right?
mr.m...It would appear that, based on responses, most of your readers are "left-leaning" and headline following
marc...If trump wasn’t involved I’d be confident
fred...It's politicized what should be independent. It would raise suspicions if suddenly the data from here on goes up?
cfio...too many after announcement adjustments. What gives? And don't tell me staffing.
robo...Is that question regarding before or after the Pedophile-in-Chief fired the competent person and replaced her with the lackey?
btaw...The BLS process has not changed for years. They provide estimates based on best known data at time of initial release, then the numbers are revised over time as more data is acquired. Just because the numbers are unfavorable, does not mean the numbers are wrong or the process is broken.
andr...Regardless of administration, these economic numbers are always bogus.
kcg....You need to qualify the question. Are you asking about the BLS up until Trump fired the director or from now on? I had full faith until now. Now? Can’t believe any of it after he puts in a loyalist toadie.
ruby...How many other people have been fired because of "bad reports"? What data can we trust? CPI?
pfor...Trump never looks in the mirror. Always someone else's fault. The 'not confident' folks need to look at the historic numbers. The numbers change regardless of the party! Trump's numbers improved in his last term!
djmo...The consistent wide variation in some reporting seems to indicate at least a problem with collection and reporting. The fact that this problem has continued for the entire period of the former agency head indicated some need for change, as some of the reporting errors and corrections were becoming embarrassing.
lora...This organization is political. During the Biden administration they over estimated jobs every quarter which were later revised downward significantly. Now, they do not like Trump so they underestimate job growth trying to imply the economy is not working. These people should all be fired.
ttim...2nd major incident in past 12 mos.
cica...Not going forward, however. There is no information that can be trusted coming out of this administration. And unfortunately, that may be the truth going forward in this country after this administration.
bhad...Going forward not confident at all
rcoo...Certainly more confident than any statistical findings claimed by the MAGA administration.
chuc...I just got an underpayment from Workman's comp for $356000, It should have been $356 but they put a decimal in the wrong place. How can I trust anything that comes from Government inefficiency?
mart...They lie
pken...Don’t know how precise the numbers are but they generally match up with what I see on the ground.
gale...I was in the job market in 2023 - 2025 as white collar job seeker and they overstated numbers then too - towards the end of Bidens term it came out. I don't know who or how they survey but it has been way off from reality for some time and I'm glad that action was taken. I think it had a political bias for some time now. I also think unemployment numbers are understated as they don't capture people not claiming benefits such as my situation during that time. I only hope revised leadership amounts to better accounting and reporting and less fluff.
godi...I have high confidence in the data reported prior to the firing of the commissioner, but I’m only cautiously optimistic about the integrity of future reports.
pspa...This is why we must fund government and non partisan institutions
nanc...It’s a complex process to come up with these numbers, especially in light of the changes future tariffs will bring.
geor...I felt the BLS did a decent job Until Trump fired the head of the organization - now who the heck knows. Whoever takes over will know they need to make sure the numbers are what Trump wants to see instead of reality. And since I was able to go back and check the numbers he delared were made up during his 2020 campaign and the reason he lost - absolutely 4 Pinocchios!
mich...I will not be confident once Trump selects one of his unqualified cronies to report the numbers he wants to hear. High employment is one indicator the economy is doing well and rates don’t need adjusting. You can’t have good employment numbers and demand lower interest rates!
dave...I dont get my facts from Politicians- never did, and particularly in the current administration never will.
suet...I have been confident in the past but the changes being made by this administration will make me suspicious of any numbers put out in the future. Nothing this administration has done or said has been truthful or in the country’s best interests.
jose...With so many positions cut, the stats will go even lower.
floy...Not confident from now on if Trump remains in office.
laur...It's not clear if this question was retrospective or prospective, which seems to be boggling the results.
pete...The BLS is widely respected by people, including most politicians and economists, who have the necessary expertise and experience, to have an informed. objective opinion. Opinions of those with such expertise or experience have no value.
robe...The only who stands to gain is the one calling it rigged...let's face it when corporate needs to increase profit it's decreasing head count at $100k per head minimum per person it's the easiest way to recover what the tariff will take.
ende...You need to find the interview of the previous Labor Statistics Minister walk thru how the data is gathered and assimilated. It made it clear that it isn’t rigged
tubi...i expect that as with most of the number provided by the govt, it was extrapolated from a few samplings that were determined to be a snapshot of the country.
lind...I do not believe anything tRump says is "rigged"!!!!!!!
rrbr...Off by too much
twel...Just another Trump move-if you don’t like results, fire the messinger
semp...to think otherwise is just an attempt now to manipulate data going forward AND THAT IS TERRIFYING
rtet...Another example of MSM and GOP misinformation to bamboozle the American people. There have been no changes in the procedures in BLS employment reporting. Just because the data isn't what Trump wanted does not mean that it is incorrect. But that's okay, when the recession does kick in later this year, all of the lemmings can claim they didn't know they were being led over a cliff by Trump and the GOP.
rpar...Unlike Trump, I don't believe in shooting the messenger.
tomd...I was very confident, but why such a drastic (nearly tenfold) change from May and June data? I'm not an expert nor do I have privy to much knowledge about the data and the process, but something just doesn't seem right.
jame...The Bureau should remain independent and not be influenced by the White House.
jim....As always, if Trump doesn’t like what he hears, he makes it up. You can no longer believe any of what you hear and hardly any of what you see. The truth is becoming nearly extinct.
barb...BLS is not political. It's based on facts.
cmor...The sudden termination when you know who doesn’t like the results and doesn’t look favorably upon his administration, all the more suspicious but with this administration par for the course it seems
gban...That’s their core business. Like it or not. Data comes from reliable sources.
alex...That they made an adjustment makes me think they are trying to get it right.
mspe...If BLS leadership becomes political, we will not be able to trust the analysis. BLS needs to an independent assessment.
jmbe...Trump never had a problem with the data, as long as it was favorable to him. (He views election results the same way.) Interesting that he never presents any opposing data to support his claims.
sara...I work in data and data governance and it is SO EASY for data to become unclean. In fact, 80% of data analysis is data cleaning. Impacts to those cleaning processes - losing analysts, oversight, etc through funding, coupled with major shifts in data collection (survey response rate) can have profound shifts. No one should EVER be "very confident" in organizational data, especially in this period of disruption. Question it always!
robe...It's better than the gut feeling of a narcissist president
levi...I meant to say I WILL not be confident now that the firing took place and the office is being controlled and manipulated for political purposes. I was VERY confident prior to these interferences
cger...The Progressive Leftist "Deep state" during the Obama years has permeated EVERY aspect of our government and the DC area in general. This brings into question ANYTHING that goes on in that town , including being able to assemble a grand jury to indict Democrats conspiring against a sitting president.
eric...Too US federal agencies have become corrupted They have lost the focus of their mission in a drive to enact a political agenda. DEI has killed any efficiency that was left within our federal agencies Time for the federal government to embrace meritocracy not DEI
kold...I was very confident in them until Trump fired their leader. Now, it's just another fascist propaganda tool.
esim...Biden has big write downs after the elections.
lvca...I doubt that I will have the same confidence if Trump appoints one of his submissive, compliant, cowering supporters.
conr...I am fairly confident. But I am far less confident now that Trump's replacement, who will likely blindly follow POTUS' agenda will be as objective as he or she needs to be.
myna...I think that this question should have been more specific about confidence in the BLS numbers up to now vs confidence in the BLS numbers going forward.
pjpa...The agency revised yearly jobs numbers by over 1 million in 2023 after revising monthly data down by an average of 100,000/ month so they have ZERO CREDIBILITY in my mind
dhen...They are always wrong and often by large amounts.
nish...Layoff are all around white collar job. Gov reducing ranks. Doesn’t take a genius to know that more people are unemployed.
tjki...BLS is all we got and it has been very reliable over time. Late survey responses may be a result of federal layoffs, company reductions in force and complacency in the workforce.
pete...They are doing their best with what data that they have. As noted in the article the survey response rate is down.
priv...I am glad President Trump is bringing back accountability to government jobs.
plta...Trump and his sharpie are changing hurricane paths and changing bad data.
nd1n...They need to get it right the first time. Don't release it until then.
kvas...Trumpty Dumpty thinks words mean what he says they mean, but facts are facts. People who live in his ego-driven world are willing to deny reality. That would be fine if it didn't matter to the rest of the world, but it does matter. If Trumpty Dumpty thinks up means down, we must disabuse him, even if that means he will fire us from our jobs. To do otherwise is simply cowardly.
bruc...Trump needs to key these agencies work autonomously and keep politics out of it. He has proven he has no idea how to govern
crai...The size of monthly corrections in 2024/25 have increased by 5X over the prior 10 year period. I have no confidence in the initial numbers released.
lnan...The revisions are necessary and become larger since more respondents are not responding in a timely manner or not at all.
brad...I used to be confident, but I don’t have any confidence in the data going forward.
crai...With the revisions they do every month, how do they know if the revisions are correct?
ed.m...This administration has politicized analysis and reduced funding for data collection
jon....Trump is just firing the messenger for daring to give him bad news
wmc5...To many adjustments point toward manipulation of data to meet political pressure to hurt theUS and Trump.
aran...Not confident in future, anyway. What a jackass move on Trump's part. Someone should explain to him why flattery is the ancient enemy of princes.
karl...I feel the BLS is independent, and her firing was not justified, and now at this point the BLS has become tainted by political motivations. Our Constitution is now compromised.
jmil...A record of continual revisions suggests the initial monthly data report is inaccurate. If initial data gathering can’t be made to be more reflective of each month’s job report, then I suggest the report be delayed until accurate info is available. Many groups rely on these reports to make decisions. Also, the dramatic change in the jobs report just prior to the 2024 election is certainly suspicious.

How justified do you think the US tariff of 25% on Indian goods is in response to India’s purchase of Russian oil?

  • 47% Unjustified and counterproductive to US-India relations
  • 42% Fully justified as a necessary pressure tactic
  • 11% Unsure

EmailComments
lora...India should quit buying Russia oil until Russia leaves Ukraine. Why India is supporting Russia in this war is not correct.
chri...Anything Trump does has been the wrong approach and counterproductive. Yes we want to apply pressure on Russia to abandon its aggressive designs on Ukraine and other former Soviet satellites, but more considerate and competent negotiation is required. Not Trump’s way of destroying existing assets and disrespecting allies
lvca...This is our ally, and who are we to say where they should or shouldn’t get what they need for their one and one-half billion people!
robe...US must ally with India instead of pushing it away like it did with China. India is an important market for US products and good source of IT workforce to complement US due to the lack of preparation/education in this area.
priv...Its obvious India is playing everyone
robs...So, 44.2% of your readers are in favor of India funding Russia taking over another country in the 21st Century as well as the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens and soldiers? Perhaps I'm reading the wrong newsletter.
suet...Blackmail and coercion are not legitimate business practices.
mere...I just looked up how much they have been using tariffs against our exports for years.
jmbe...Trump's tariffs are doing way more harm than good, across the board.
mdul...If Trump had placed his trade war tariffs and additional sanctions on Russia to try to have them change course and then he was going after the nations that were ignoring the sanctions and facilitating bypassing his tariffs, I could even understand. However, Trump has purposefully left Russia alone and is targeting nations that he feels he can bully. He is worsening one of our most important partnerships to pursue his own agenda, as he has with most of the tariffs he has imposed.
cger...Any country supporting Russia in their aggression against neighboring states needs to feel the wrath of American power.
cica...The problem is all of the other tariffs everywhere all the time. Tariffs should always be targeted and used sparingly. They should also be reasonable and have some rationale behind them not this scattershot insane whatever I think today business
jamf...We need other countries to put pressure on Putin to end the mass killings in Ukraine!

Palantir’s shares trade at 276 times forward earnings. Is this valuation justified?

  • 82% No, it’s an overvaluation likely to correct
  • 18% Yes, high growth justifies a premium valuation

EmailComments
cger...That is just too high to justify.
nanc...We can only hope it’s overvalued. Peter Thiel doesn’t need any more money/power.

Should banks be allowed to refuse service to clients based on their political beliefs?

  • 65% No, political discrimination should be prohibited
  • 29% Yes, businesses should have discretion
  • 6% Unsure

EmailComments
lora...This should not be allowed. This is another means for the democrats to control the US and destroy our democracy.
keea...these are institutions to serve all Americans without looking at their political affiliations. It must be made illegal to do that.
priv...I would like to know the thinking behind someone that would answer yes to this question.
twin...Trump can fire federal employees for no reason! He can target democrats daily sith his unfiltered mouth. I dont have a problem with banks refusing their service to a company who promotes killing!
suet...All businesses should have the right to refuse service to anyone.
kold...Banks should be able to do whatever they want--these are private companies for God sakes. They don't need a fascist telling them who to serve.
joan...Banks should not have to submit to this absurd scrutiny to fit into this administration's ideological bias barometer. Like living under a dictatorship!
btaw...It’s a free market. Banks and many others businesses make frequent decisions on how to manage their markets, as part of resource management and maximizing profits. It’s not unusual to avoid high risk clients. However, blatant discrimination against people based on race, gender, religion etc should be addressed.
kvas...We already prohibit banks from providing services based on certain political beliefs. Can a bank make a loan to a know terrorist organization? I don't think so. Anyway, it's the wrong question. The real question is: Do you believe Trump's claim that banks are discriminating against Republicans? The little orange ego is adept at creating straw man enemies (immigrants, minorities, artists, schools) that the weak-minded followers can then join together to hate. The illogic of it is obvious. Do you really believe that any bank is going to turn down business (and, therefore, profits) because somebody is either a Democrat or a Republican? Get real.
perm...Political discrimination should not be allowed any more than religious, racial or gender discrimination.
robs...So, 29.8% of your readers are deranged and opposed to the rule of law? Perhaps I'm reading the wrong news letter!
cpae...I got cancelled by the woke mob and chase froze my business account saying 5 years ago when I opened the account I never signed the signature cards which was a complete lie. I ended up moving to a conservative bank.
jmbe...Yes, discrimination should be prohibited. That doesn't prove it's actually occurring, in the case of these banks.
cger...All those that say "yes" would think differently if it were happening to them.
eric...Banks should focus on credit worthiness and the soundness of the investment loan One’s politics should never factor into a bank’s decision to agree to a loan This will only lead to corruption and a loss of freedom
102d...Your answer choices use the words businesses, but the info was specific to banks. Banks are a speciicbusness and that effects my answer.
mdul...This is such an interesting case. MAGA was in an uproar previously to support businesses that denied services to people with whom they disagreed - such as gay couples and transgenders. However, here they're in an uproar to insist that businesses must serve customers no matter their beliefs. Doesn't this also all just smack of DEI, just the DEI favored by MAGA.
andr...Private businesses should be able to operate how they want. However, this question is missing the more important piece: when government regulatory powers are used to strongarm businesses, it's no longer a free market determining business practice. Study chokepoint and the twitter files.

Would you personally try to include brisk walking in your daily routine after reading about its benefits?

  • 88% Yes, I’m motivated to change my habits
  • 12% No, I don’t think it would make a difference for me

EmailComments
kvas...Duh. Exercise (in any form) is a good idea. Mind blown.
lora...This is true and why I have walked daily for years
laur...I already take near-daily walks and can easily pick up the pace!
cger...I incorporate a walk every other day
barb...I am 81, a brisk walker and very healthy.
tomd...I'm in my sixties. I do it every day, and it makes me feel great! No analysis need here - just need to listen to the body.

Do you believe that playing video games can positively impact children’s intelligence as suggested by the study?

  • 45% Yes, gaming can boost cognitive skills
  • 41% No, the evidence is not convincing
  • 13% Unsure

EmailComments
tomd...I believe it depends on the games being played. I recently started to significantly minimize my sons' time playing Roblox, for a number of reasons. However, I let them play all the Koobits "Brain Games" they want. Since I implemented these changes, I now have happier, more relaxed and inquisitive kids.
wise...The study appears to have relied on self reporting which is usually subjective and open to interpretation.
kvas...Intelligence can be measured by reference to how many factoids you can store in your memory banks. A lot? OK, you're brilliant. But can you engage in a conversation over dinner or a drink? No? Well, maybe not all that smart. What does video gaming add to a child's ability to interact successfully with other people?
nanc...In moderation, I think there are benefits to playing video games, especially in place of watching TV. It’s more engaging than TV.
mdul...Assuming the mean IQ for the cohort is approximately the 100 baseline for both mean and median, then this suggests a 2.5% difference. It hardly seems worthwhile when considering all of the negatives associated with prolonged video gaming.
perm...The negative impact on school, sleep and social skills will outweigh the small potential for IQ improvement. Perhaps a restricted amount of gaming time would result in positive benefits.
