Anna's Daybreak News

Just facts, you think for yourself

How much confidence do you have that the Supreme Court will provide a final and clear resolution on the limits of presidential tariff powers?

  • 68% Low confidence, the ruling will remain uncertain or contested
  • 32% High confidence, the Court will clarify the issue

EmailComments
arth...Seems fairly clearcut. He either can institute the tariffs under broad based economic protective power given the executive branch, or he can’t.
guin...Supreme Court is a political block reporting to Trump. It is highly likely that he can also obtain a blanket approval for tariff control from congress.
stev...They are trumps puppets
twal...It seems that they tend to give narrow and defined decisions that don't cover all cases.
jcho...Look at their track record so far, although this may be a very tough one to justify.
btaw...We may not like the outcome, but seems the SCOTUS will have something to say.
dian...This SCOTUS seems to have an issue with saying "no" to this president, but they are not confident in their own decisions.
geof...The Supreme Court has proven to be Trump’s loyalists and will vote how he wants them to vote.
thos...The Court’s conservatives will be reluctant to use taxing power as the hill they are prepared to defend in pushing back on the president. There’s some possibility of a 5-4 with Robert+1 joining the liberals to strike this down, perhaps on the grounds of there not being an “emergency” for the president to act in response to.
emyo...The law is clear. A supreme court ruling will favor trump despite it being clearly at odds with the language of the law.
jose...The right owns the court. I have no confidence in the court.
creo...We have justices that cannot even define what a woman is; it is scary to say. Another president in the past had tariffs imposed and it was legal!!!! People opposing this are trying to destroy our country and make Trump’s agenda worthless . Losers are defying Trump
sopa...Tariffs are on american people and american business. They are the road to poverty.
tagi...It appears the supreme court has become political.
dust...SC is bought and paid for by this administration, which has a long history of illegal activity followed by lawsuits.
livp...Control of present court
lind...IT IS THE SUPREME COURTS JOB TO BE NON-BIASED AND FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION AND NOT FOLLOW WHAT TRUMP SAYS WITH A BLIND EYE TO JUSTICE AND OUR CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!!!
suzy...The Supreme Court are Trumpers ands will not rule against him
dmsh...Current court lacks courage to examine merits based on constitution. It has tilted too far right.
spr....It’s a Trump Supreme Court….he’ll get what he needs to continue his authoritarian rule.
brod...Under the trump administration, the Supreme Court has lost its independence.
cjun...Each of the judges in the court have sworn to be faithful to the constitution. I am an independent thinker, but I must believe in this.
spen...I think the time limits that the president's emergency powers exist need to be better defined. This BS that there are no congressional days should not be constitutional.
robe...Give my recent lowering of my opinion on the courts ability to indifferent or in fairness and pushing the decisions back to where they belong in local or federal administration branches... If I Were the Court hearing"s" on tariffs... **Holding:** Congress has unconstitutionally delegated its tariff authority by statutes such as Section 232. The Constitution requires Congress to establish clear standards and boundaries. **Reasoning:** - Tariffs function as taxes, which the Constitution vests in Congress. - The vague standard of ‘national security’ is insufficient, allowing presidents to expand definitions at will. - Separation of powers demands Congress retain the decision-making power, leaving the executive only flexibility in execution. **Remedy:** The Court would strike down the challenged use of Section 232, staying its ruling for 12–18 months to allow Congress to revise the law. This prevents immediate disruption while restoring constitutional balance. 5. Bottom Line If acting as the Supreme Court, I would rule that current tariff delegations like Section 232 are unconstitutional under the nondelegation doctrine. Congress must reclaim or clearly define its commerce and taxing powers, preventing the executive from unilaterally imposing tariffs without precise legislative guidance.
dhil...The conservatives on the court are his puppets.
jmel...He has them in his pocket
cica...Yeah, this is a really pathetic Supreme Court. John Roberts seems like a fool. Not very smart. Of course, Alito and Thomas are completely corrupt. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are just so partisan and not either decent or compassionate. That leaves the cult lady and three reasonable, compassionate human beings trying to do their job correctly.
nanc...Who can trust the supreme court to do anything but lick trump’s boots.
jeff...As Trump goes, unfortunately so goes the (less than) Supreme Court.
rhal...This is their duty, I don't see any petty reason that they could rule on and send it back to the lower courts.
djti...This will be yeat another example of the anti-Trump lawfare campaign grinding to a halt. But not to worry, they'll quickly move on to something else.
brad...They will rubber stamp the approval for him straight away.
bjef...Since the supreme court is basically ignoring Trump's transgressions and defiance of the Constitution (which is their core job) why would anyone think they'd do anything other than rubber stamp his tariffs?
tere...SCOTUS will reverse the appeals court decision on ideological lines - the basis for their decision is support for the Supreme Leader
dhun...Trumps appointed Supreme Court will avoid setting president on the issue and allow their supreme ruler free run.
cgva...I have zero confidence in the integrity of the judges.
katl...Most of the Justices are in Trump’s pocket. The minority are fair judges in my opinion.
nanc...Trump has stacked the Supreme Court.
dlmo...Sadly the court has become partisan
gban...SCOTUS is as much to blame for this country’s shit show as Trump.
aube...I do not trust them. They are corrupt.
abel...Trump rules everyone he put his people in place to assure he does whatever he wants and our courts allowed it, total disgrace
cooc...Whatever Trump wants he gets!
ewmu...Supreme Court in Trumps pocket
dlee...Lowest confidence in this Supreme Court to act without political influence
pegg...I don’t think we can trust the Supreme Court much at all right now.
shei...Trump has loaded Supreme Court with his people.
jlcg...I am certain that a federal appeal court, voting in full formation at a clear majority, had carefully weighted the various arguments raised, and that the Supreme Court will therefore confirm the position that certain forms of tarifs can only be decided, or revoked, by a vote of Congress. This will definitely the issue, although it may only prolong the uncertainty as the administration may seek to reinstate those tarifs, either by submitting them to congress or by looking for new justifications.
akrc...Sadly, I have no confidence in the Supreme Court in this country anymore
bill...I do not believe the Supreme Court is still a non-partisan entity.
aaf9...The Supreme Court is no longer non political
kvas...Traitor Don has turned the Supreme Court into a rubber stamp for whatever he wants.
chri...Here’s an opportunity for the SC to do the right thing and also bring about the eventual demise of terrible Trump. But it’s highly doubtful they will do the right thing. Their integrity or impotence will be shown.
what...They have no spines to stand up to Trump’s bs.
sing...SCOTUS are hand-picked rubber stampers these days.
tess...The current SCOTUS is as corrupt as our president.
lesl...The courts seem to have no power. Trump will find a work around to get what he wants.
kjla...I have lost all faith in this Supreme Court
ken....This Supreme Court appears to prefer a Dictatorship or King over a Democracy. Supreme Court appointees should be chosen by their judicial peers and hold their appointment for two consecutive six year terms. The appointees overseeing the interpretation of our constitution need to be unbiased and should not be left or right “leaning”. The founding fathers would be aghast at how we have bastardized the interpretation of our constitution
stev...They’ll issue a ruling to temporarily extend the tariffs to remain in effect until congress takes action at least 3 to 6 months post midterms. This will give the court cover to pretend to be impartial without completely abdicating their role. If Republicans retain control of congress, then they’ll continue to allow the Trump admin to break the law without consequences and if they lose then they’ll have the chaos caused by the vague ruling to pressure the weak Democrat majority.
dawn...The Supreme Court is the highest court they will have the final say.

The U.S. recently imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods largely due to India’s Russian oil purchases. How justified is India's pursuit of ‘strategic autonomy’ under these circumstances?

  • 56% Fully justified, India must act according to its national interests
  • 35% Partially justified, but India should balance relations with major powers
  • 8% Not justified, India should align more closely with U.S. interests

nanc...trump’s tariffs were a slap in the face to a longstanding trade partner. Time for all these former partners to start a new game with other players. They can’t count on anything from the U.S. anymore.
cger...Your Progressive Leftist war monger readers would be just fine letting India support the Putin War & Killing Machine by buying Russian Oil. They really don't care about human life, just their political and cultural agenda advancement. Disgusting.
katl...Trump is so dishonest that he is pushing our economic partners, friends and foes into the embrace of China and Russia. Very questionable indeed! Stupid or compromised?
mads...Trump should be using carrots not clubs with India. Remove all tariffs and provide other incentives if India stops buying Russian oil.
cica...Hey turnabout is Fair play. And India is going to do what India is gonna do. Modi is going to Modi. These are Sovereign nations that Trump is screwing with, and their populations are just as patriotic as ours. I don’t know what the MAGAt’s think. They are as foolish as their leader.
usct...Trump has upset international relations and the international economy. We have become unreliable as an ally and trade partner. Trump’s isolation and political performance will drive a new balance of power and America will be left behind. There are no permanent friends in international relations. There are only permanent national interests.

When weighing drug options for obesity with cardiovascular disease, would you prioritize heart risk reduction or overall weight loss?

  • 47% Both equally important
  • 43% Heart risk reduction
  • 10% Overall weight loss

cger...We want it ALL, give us EVERYTHING!!!
kvas...I would prioritize what my doctor (who has spent years in higher education and training to learn their job) advises over any poll (which will include the opinions of uneducated and untrained people who swallow whole whatever Worm Brain wants to feed them).
btaw...Answers are directly linked, not exclusive
jlcg...IS the question pertinent? Doesn't heart disease risk reduction REQUIRES , among other actions, a serious pressure against obesity?

What is your view on the U.S. deploying a large naval force to the Caribbean in response to narcoterrorism linked to Venezuela?

  • 63% An excessive show of force that risks escalation
  • 27% A necessary step to curb drug trafficking
  • 10% Unsure

milt...He has dementia and is living out childhood fantasies—that poor little boy. I feel zero sympathy for the monster who is president now, just trying to start WWIII so nonchalantly. People should be disgraced and embarrassed. Alas, they are not. Blows my mind!
cger...Not surprised by the response of your (obviously) Progressive Leftist readers. When Biden opened our borders, Venezuela was VERY pro-active in opening up their prisons and insane asylums to flood the US with as many problems that they could as fast as they could. Progressive Leftist love chaos, anarchy and violence.
jlcg...Excessive, and most likely useless. A greater number of smaller, faster patrol ships, and a few good electronic surveillance planes will be much more adequate if the goal is really to combat drug smuggling.
brad...It’s just Trump pretending he’s strong.
spro...Most of your readers are pessimistic about everything related to making our country safe or prosperous. Just let the cartels continue killing our children.
csbr...Sounds like a great America First move. What is the bounty for Trump? $86.47?
cica...Yeah, there’s no strategy coming from this administration. It’s all show and then no go. Just like with the TACO trade and the Putin obeisance. Trump’s a fool
mads...Naval force is OK but putting a bounty on President Maduro is wrong.

Given the role of cold exposure in activating beige fat, how likely would you be to adopt cold therapy as a weight management tool?

  • 44% Maybe
  • 29% Very likely
  • 27% Unlikely

mads...I'm an avid skier so I already spend a lot of time in the cold. Your article doesn't describe cold therapy so maybe I should have chosen maybe.
ebr....So, a cold plunge is recommended now? The Nordic countries do it, so I'm all for it. Cold showers have helped me feel better over time. Invigorating!
creo...Most older folk are tired of the cold. They move south for the warmth.
srl2...I'm in my 9th decade and the thought of it sends shivers down my spine. I may give it a try...gradually.
chri...What do you know, old rich folks, “snow birding” to Florida or Arizona is actually killing you faster. Stay in Buffalo or Canada and go to more hockey games!
