Just facts, you think for yourself

Should the Federal Reserve lower interest rates by three percentage points as Trump suggests to reduce U.S. debt interest payments?

  • 68% No, such a cut risks inflation and economic instability
  • 25% Yes, a large rate cut would help the economy and debt burden
  • 7% Unsure

mark...The President needs to stay the hell out of Treasury, the Courts, State Government, Schools, Libraries, and much more. He thinks he is a f---king king.
bill...Yes, Powell should do the rate cuts just like Trump wants. Powell is standing in the way of the American people! We hired Trump for president not Powell!
fkor...Nothing Trump suggests is a good idea - especially this!
csbr...South Park Trump is a great representation of what an inferior quality human looks and sounds like.
pete...THe FED only controls short term rates. Longer term rates cannot be controlled by the FED. Artificially low short term rates could cause catatrophic results in other segments of the economy.
jamf...The majority of working class and middle class- as well as our young people deserve a break!
bjta...I guess 67.7 % of the respondents want higher interest rates. This includes interest on borrowing for homes, cars, and credit card balances. Lower Fed rates will stimulate investments by companies, expand the number of employees, and reduce the federal deficit. Wake up America. All the naysayer economists, and main stream media Trump Haters have been proven wrong!!! The current inflation rate of 2.7% is far less than it was during Biden's record high inflation rate of 9.5%. Reduce the Fed rate and increase investments while reducing our debt. It's a no brainer.
robs...No. Congress would spend that $1 trillion on unnecessary entitlements, each other, bogus foreign aid and other wasteful spending within a week!
caro...Our daughter cannot afford to buy a home and has been living with us, her parents. She is now 31 and does not want to rent as rent costs as much as a mortgage these days. It is impossible for these young adults like our daughter to get on their own and be able to purchase a home although she has lots of savings and a great job as a nurse at Tufts Medical Center in Boston to do so. Something has GOT to change.
tomd...Mr. Powell et all have already proven themselves capable of achieving their dual mandate - keep inflation down and employment up. Thus, if they say it's too early to cut rates, then I trust their judgment. I also believe we need to ensure we don't repeat the mistake of the late 70s - lowering rates prematurly and causing inflation to rekindle.
rake...Interest is hurting business
af.a...Trump cannot fire Powell.
ttim...The rate cut would generate an economic boom and not effectively raise inflation.
aran...Trump's goal, as always, is to take down the feedback mechanisms that might reveal the real deleterious effects of (some of) his policies.
pat_...They should lower, starting next week, but very gradually.
mdul...There are so many indicators of economic uncertainty that it seems unwise to lower rates at this point. I have recently had personal experience of products that normally shipped to me in the same day as orders placed but now they are backordered almost two months, and at higher prices. MAGA likes to deny facts and reality but only the most clueless person would deny price increases and inflation. Moreover, the Fed Chairman must always ensure that his role and the Fed decisions are apolitical - he must resist Trump's bullying and make the right decision for the Fed's two primary objectives.
sean...The Fed cut rates last year and the 10 Year UST is HIGHER today than it was! They just added $5 Trillion dollars of M2 (money supply). Look at a chart of M2 and CPI... scary how they correlate. Better ways to control our debt service... like actual fiscal responsibility and reduced spending.
kvas...I trust the Fed. I do not trust the President.
lkdn...Bond prices would rise. People and governments who buy bonds help pay the national debt. If this stops there would be hyperinflation
cica...We’re six months in and prices aren’t coming down at all as a matter fact everything is getting more expensive. You you can talk about the price of eggs, but that’s about the only thing that’s stabilized. Beef has gone through the roof, thanks primarily to not enforcing the law against monopolies. There’s there’s very few packing houses left and many of them are owned by Chinese companies.
140....A large interest rate cut would accelerate US Economic Growth and stabilize the housing market, which is at a complete standstill due to high interest rates.
pjpa...Let me get this right, the person in-charge of our Nation’s financial guidance oversaw a 65% cost overrun??? WTH???
ljay...A cut would simply result in lower payments on the margin, and impact short term rates rather than longer term rates (driven by long term expectations for inflation). The markets aren't fooled that easily!
milt...Trump’s proposed is completely reckless, like so many of his other acts. He is juicing his financial picture, weakening the U.S. financial position, and the next administration is going to incur the wrath of the public as they will have to be the adults and try to fix it, or suffer the consequences. It is just ridiculous and destroying this country’s finances.
acts...Economic stability is already in jeopardy. Cutting rates will help the housing market.
jpwe...higher interest helps people who depend on it for income, especially old people
ebr....Trump is a fool who doesn't understand the long-term effects of such a drastic plunge in rates. Why should he care, though? He's old and won't be around to suffer with the rest of the country.
dsbl...Powell is NOT an economist. He's been wrong or late at every juncture. The housing market needs an interest rate adjustment.
cesv...It is not the president’s job to dictate what interest should be. The federal reserve does it to protect our economy
nanc...Powell is right to remain conservative ahead of the August 1st tariff resumption. It’s likely US importers will raise their prices to cover the costs of the tariffs once they realize our buffoon president isn’t changing his policy.
sara...I have no idea, but we should let’s let the fed reserve do their job. Not the president-
brum...Bidens large debt is coming due, we need lower interest rates to refinance this mess
rtet...The Federal Reserve cannot save the US economy from Trump's inability to understand economics.
sure...Common sense economics and we’ve seen this picture before when inflation rises with low interest rates
jcro...High taxes and increasing insurance cost on homes has a major affect on monthly mortgage payments.
robe...Interest rates modifications should not be used for political gain or grandstanding So, no, the Federal Reserve should not lower interest rates by 3 percentage points to reduce debt interest payments. That idea is: • Inflationary • Politically toxic • Dangerous for market confidence • Ultimately self-defeating The Fed’s job is to balance inflation and employment, not to serve as a Band-Aid for Congress’s fiscal excesses. If Trump wants lower debt service costs, the solution lies in fiscal reform, not monetary manipulation.
guin...The Federal Reserve Board has consistently fought inflation as one of its mandates. Inflation is not good for the economy nor for the American people.

How concerned are you about political influence affecting editorial decisions in major news organizations?

  • 85% Very concerned
  • 8% Not concerned
  • 7% Somewhat concerned

EmailComments
pete...This is nothing new. Politics has always been involved in broadcasting. However the fact these actions are so blatant makes poeople aware of exactly what is happening and why. The FCC joins a pantheon of federal boards that are being weaponized, when they are supposed to be politically neutral. What's new is there is now not even a pretense of neutrallity.
spro...Very concerned but you got it backwards. It was the previous administration and legacy media who were guilty of lying to America and covering up everything. Happy to see the worse culprits are starting to have to answer for their lies and we want accountability.
psha...The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government, and to protect its free expression should be our first object. Thomas Jefferson
jim....It is an abuse of power and puts freedom of speech at risk. We need factual, honest reporting without the narrative being controlled by political powers. If politicians control the narrative the truth will be obscured.
robs...Are you kidding? You mean ALL OF MAINSTREAM MEDIA RUTHLESSLY SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING THE DEMOCRAT PARTY AGENDA & PLATFORM SINCE THE 1ST PRINTING PRESS WAS HAULED OFF OF A SHIP OVER 300 YEARS AGO!
holl...Would like to get back to truth and balanced view reporting.
mich...Truth in journalism no longer exists. It’s all slanted in bias and agendas.
koad...Outstanding. The editorial nature of major news organizations is counter to objective reporting, and traditionally especially lately a propaganda tool of The Lie (the left). It is great to finally see it crumbling.
geof...Freedom of the press is the first amendment. Under political influence, it’s not free to report the facts or give objective editorial opinions. It’s another part of the Constitution that Trump simply ignores.
stei...We are losing our democracy through erosion of our media. Freedom of speech and freedom of our media is a critical right. We the people need to be informed
grov...So glad Trump is addressing this issue with the news media. Resurgence of ombudsmen at news organizations is good, although had vanished in most organizations in the last 10-20 years. Misinformation and not reporting the news and inserting opinions in actual factual news is wrong, unless it is labeled editorial. The Wall Street Journal allowed opinions in news reporting during Trump’s first election. These were published OUTSIDE of the Opinion pages. This led to the floodgates opening in all media. And it has influenced the demise of the newspaper industry.
nanc...This is only the beginning. Trump and the architects of Project 2025 have big ambitions to take down the media, following Victor Orbon’s playbook.
milt...Freedom of the press is quickly disappearing.
csbr...Trump was a privileged pedophile who is trying to cover it up, along with being a child rapist.
aran...A nightmare.
t.c....As a people we’re losing our freedoms daily. Republicans have made their new agenda big government. Disappointing.
mdul...Beyond the personal bribe paid to Trump and the cancellation of Colbert's show because he is visibly critical of Trump, Skydance also agreed to give Trump $20M of free air time for his purposes. Just one more time when Trump's bullying and weaponization of government has gotten him what he wants.
mr.h...Did no one see this type of behavior coming out of this administration?
sara...Freedom of speech is being stripped away in all area of American culture, education in business and being replaced with fear.
crai...Today’s MSM has become a mouthpiece for the left. Many important and relevant stories are not even covered. Restore FCC Fairness Doctrine Act that required equal time for opposing views on TV stations. It was removed in 1987.
tdhu...I’ve long been concerned about politics influencing editorial decisions in major news organizations. Corporate media, in general, is a problem simply because they are run by corporations which have political interests. The less news organizations are run / owned / financed by business corporations, the more trustworthy their reporting.
mary...Trump has no business trying to control the media-particularly as his efforts are totally based on self interest!
rtet...The US President should not blackmail the US media. He sues over falsehoods and claims victimhood when presented with facts.
usct...What we see here from our business and media elites is that money outweighs morals and the bottom line over rules common sense and the Constitution. All are complicit in the lawlessness of this administration.
pjpa...Steve Colbert show wasn’t cancelled due to the settlement, it’s bc his show turned from comedy to a liberal biased political show & it was losing $50 million dollars a year - CEO has accountability to shareholders first & foremost not liberals
tisc...Unacceptable
ebr....Controlling the media is a facet of fascism. We're already uninformed enough as a society. More needs to be spent on education and healthcare.
kvas...Is it even possible that someday there might be another Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, or Huntley and Brinkley? Not if this President has his way.
caza...Democrats charged Trump was extorting Paramount to allow deal to go through, yet the Democrat member of the commission was the only one to vote against. So, Republicans were holding up the sale, but the Democrats are the only ones to vote against it.
join...It's not just editorial content; politics affects what news is ĥ
hoop...I'm saying "not concerned" because the term "political influence" is so ephemeral. Fundamentally news organizations have the protection of the First Amendment, which this nation will protect. What the current administration is doing is re-balancing the influence away from woke ideology in order to make major news organizations less biased in one direction, and I think that's actually a good thing. If the roles were reversed, i.e. if all the news organizations were like Fox or Breitbart, then I'd be happy for a democrat administration to do the same as I strongly believe in the constitutional protection of the First Amendment.
bjta...As usual this question has a anti Trump aspect. The question should be is anyone concerned by the fact that Main Stream Media attempts to sway and influence public opinion with negative coverage of conservatives, including Trump and his agenda? That should be the question. Time and again the MSM has been caught spreading lies and false narratives regarding conservatives and Trump. CBS was found guilty of editing the interview with Harris. ABC had to pay for false reporting by George Stephanopoulos. And Colbert lost his show due to his unbridled hate and political commentary regarding conservatives and Trump. All the alphabet news organizations attempt to exert political influence through their false narratives and slanted reporting. That's why Americans are turning off these liberal so called news organizations.
g_ri...Censorship of the media at any level is unconstitutional and dangerous.
bpin...Free speech is basic democracy!
kjla...I will be dropping my Paramount subscription as a result of them bowing their knee to Trump. Pathetic!
krip...It destabilize free speech and various points of view.
ttim...Media firms exert more bias than any other source. Tighter controls including court action is required to stem this action.
priv...Very concerned that the Democrats have been doing it for decades. It is a disgrace how lopsided the media is in favor of the Democrats and willing to lie. That is the biggest threat to Democracy is news agencies being puppets for big corporations/Democrats.
lkdn...Since Congress has stopped being relevant the 5th estate is the only control we have to the loss of democracy
june...They’re already in cahoots, so it doesn’t matter what they do. I don’t believe or trust either of them.
brad...This deal is very clearly politically motivated.
kare...It is a direct violation of our constitutional right to free speech!
lind...He, Trump, wants to silence all forms of news arenas so that the public will only have access to news that this dictator deems friendly to his anti Constitutional and racist actions. He is destroying our Democracy. These are Nazi Germany tactics. "Fascinate the foolish then muzzle the Intelligent."
mr.m...Answer % suggest lots of libs on this site
fnib...Media outlets have been perpetuating lies against conservatives for the last 10 years. It is time that they be held accountable. Reporting the news is one thing, but spreading political lies for political gain is another. This is a win for common sense and decency in news reporting.
dian...The ability of our news organizations, and other literary publications to be free from political correction is the basis of our democracy, and without it, we are no longer a democracy, which is a situation which we are quickly approaching, given the current administration’s attitude toward the press.
cica...This president is one of the most transparent in history. You can see exactly what he’s up to.
dunt...This is censorship -plain and simple. The beginnings of an authoritarian government
nana...It is breaking down the very fabric of our democracy. Shameful.

How do you assess the role of outside powers (e.g., China, U.S., ASEAN) in managing or influencing the Thailand-Cambodia conflict?

  • 55% Positive—They can help mediate and de-escalate tensions
  • 26% Negative—They risk exacerbating the conflict or imposing agendas
  • 18% Neutral—Their involvement has limited impact

EmailComments
nanc...Doubtful the U.S. will have much sway, ASEAN and China may. We can only hope.
mark...The "outside powers" will benefit by selling more weapons causing more death and destruction.
ttim...Stay out of other countries politics. They will work out their politics without undue influence.
ebr....Not my business.
moji...I think its its one thing for an ngo (ASEAN) compromised of peer countries to get involved its another thing for individual countries (China, US, Russia) to get involve. The incentives of ASEAN are more likely to be aligned with conflict de-escalations, than individual countries.

How do you feel about France recognizing Palestine as a state?

  • 49% Positive
  • 36% Negative
  • 15% Neutral

EmailComments
tomp...This will just add to the tension of the negotiations and potentially impact Franco American relations.
crai...Recognizing a terrorist state will only embolden Hamas.
ttim...There is no Palestine state! It is a false narrative for terrorist activity.
mrse...Palestine should not be recognized until all hostages are released, there is a permanent ceasefire, Palestinians reject Hamas, and a new government recognizes Israel’s right to exist. After these conditions are met then Palestine can proceed to statehood.
hdpo...Huh? Can anyone specify what the borders of this so-called “state” are? Besides, they already have an historical state—it’s called Jordan.
abue...A small step that is necessary towards a final solution to the longest crisis since the Second World War. The solution has been defined by the UN resolutions based on the 1967 borders between Israel and neighboring countries.
rwun...The 1940s division of trans Palestine created both Israel and Palestine. To deny the existence of one is to deny the existence of both. Only a person with ulterior motives would deny this. The 78 year " Two State Solution" is and has always been a red herring.
rich...Devil is in the details. What government is recognized?
mr.m...DEFINITELY lots of libs on this site
mdul...Palestine has been offered the two state solution many times before. Under Clinton, Arafat even participated in drawing a map of Jerusalem with identified Israeli and Palestinian areas. However, each time it has come to a final commitment, Palestinian authorities have refused the deal. Stoking hate while personally enriching themselves (sounds familiar) always won out over doing what was right for the people. I think it's good that France is taking the step and will be interested to see whether the Palestinian Authority will take advantage of moves this time.
robs...Since Palestine has refused to make peace with Israel since its inception and insists on making war with Israel, and since Palestine refuses to govern itself, and instead allows itself to be governed by terrorists who make war on Israel and hide behind innocent Palestinians civilians, why would anyone support such cruel nonsense and crimes against humanity by recognizing Palestine / Hamas Terrorists?
nanc...Starting to think of Netanyahu and his far right cabinet as megalomaniacs drunk on their own power and unwilling to accept any inclusion of Palestinian citizens as part of the world stage.
dsbl...Palastine is a hateful state.
spro...Palestine is not a state until Hamas is eliminated and the people elect new leadership. When you hear Free Palestine, it targets and blames Israel when it is Hamas who is holding the people hostage.
fnpn...Why recognize a terrorist group as legitimate?
aran...It's almost a theatrical gesture at this point, but if it does anything to recognize the value of the lives being lost there, I'm for it.
ebr....Not my business.

How do you view the ethical considerations of using gene editing technologies enhanced by improved delivery systems in medical treatments?

  • 86% Generally positive, if well regulated and safe
  • 11% Cautious, ethical risks outweigh potential benefits
  • 3% Unsure

EmailComments
bpin...Medical science outweighs conspiracy theory.
ttim...Not enough research on lasting effects.
ebr....Do it!

Do you think focusing on individual bacteria independently (ignoring their interactions) is a sufficient approach to understanding the gut microbiome?

  • 62% No, the interactions are crucial and must be included
  • 38% Yes, it’s a practical starting point

ssac...But I’m not a scientist
shap...That’s how pharma designs most drugs. They ignore the system and focus on one reaction they want to impact.
ebr....The entire biome has to be considered.
