edsc...He is becoming a dictator!!
thek...Just based on her responsibility on our country’s monetary policy her behavior specifically on committing fraud financially demonstrates a lack of integrity and a violation of her fiduciary obligations. This is noting to do with politics. If she wanted to keep her job she would have been honest with her mortgages. We need to look at every politician and bureaucrat to see if they are upholding their fiduciary responsibilities
blik...I'd fire an employee if I discovered he or she was a criminal. Fraud is a crime. Outta there. FAFO.
wabs...God save our republic!
robs...If she still has both 30 year (or 15 year) mortgages claiming two homes as her primary residence, then from a credit risk and banking perspective, this serious, fraudulent misconduct is as real today as it was the day she first knowingly lied and executed each mortgage legal agreement.
csbr...GAVIN NEWSON WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!
fero...The notion that a US president can do whatever they choose for whatever reason to get a favorable outcome is an about face of our founding principles and just proves democracy is dead.
geof...Just more power-crazed Trump bullshit.
jono...Please stop reporting Trump's attempts to flex his power as though he can just rule by fiat. You're doing his work for him. Trump ATTEMPTED to remove Cook, but since he has no legitimate authority to do so (an accusation of mortgage fraud, you see, is not the same thing as a conviction), he failed. She's not going anywhere.
atli...An obvious dictatorial move to control every arm of governance
ange...Where is the line to be drawn? Are we going to become Turkey, our economy slaved to a dictator? Nice if it makes YOU rich, but most of us aren’t going to benefit from Trump’s assaults.
jwth...If he can dismiss a Fed governor before her term is up--and without due process--Presidents should ALSO be able to remove Supreme Court Justices for alleged infractions (buh-bye, Thomas and Alito). What a stupid and dangerous precedent to set...
sing...Once again, Trump believes himself to be above the law.
rbir...Not sure of the rules but I suspect he can’t.
jrv1...If there is proof of misconduct. But can’t be hearsay. Not for this one person, it should hold true for anyone
lees...Federal Reserve is and always should be independent!
jayw...Miss abuse of power
patc...What a joke. Trump is the King of Mortgage Fraud.
b_ai...The Fed reserve governor is crap and if they do not report to the president, who do they report to?
pldm...If you find out information on someone that wasn't disclosed before their tenure and it is severe enough then yes they can be terminated. Extreme example, the person murdered someone before they were appointed to the position but was not known yet.
biz4...Could depend on facts
ashu...It needs proper due process
lora...This person broke the law with mortgage fraud. No one is above the law. Regardless what her position is, she knowingly broke the law by lying on her mortgage application. She deserves to be fired.
juic...He is the biggest Mortgage Fraudster in our history so he need to go on and remove his old ass first.
cdog...He is an ass hat.
mr.h...This is an independent agency, the dictator does not have the authority to proceed
momm...It’s not coincidental that her perspectives on managing interest rates differ from Trump’s
spro...Drain the swamp!!
jimi...Simple. No one is above the law!
barb...Donald J Trump is an existential threat to our democracy. He is tearing down our government and turning it into a dictatorship
eric...Stupid question considering the majority of people do NOT have a background to understand what the law does or does not allow. If the laws allow the president to fire someone in that position, it's a fair move. If the law doesn't allow it, a judge will overturn Trump's decision.
dale...He is just showing how powerful he is. He is a buffoon!
hine...If that person has been found to have lied about their tax filings or any job related matter that is committing gross negligence and willful misconduct which allows any employer to terminate without cause. The question is whether the Fed Board are US government employees or not. They should be and if not then Congress should change that. At a minimum they are a Contractor to the IS government and the same standard of gross negligence or willful misconduct should apply too.
jeff...I don’t just believe he doesn’t have the power to fire her, it is the Law!!!! Of course he thinks he’s above the law. Bravo to her for fighting!!!
tomd...The independence of the Federal Reserve Board is paramount.
crus...If misrepresentations on loan documents are grounds for removal, the president should recall his convictions for this behavior.
drhg...Firing for cause is a given
tomp...I am not an Attorney, I do't give legal opinions.
dsbl...The rules of her employment are clear...the President may fire her "for cause." Mortgage fraud would seem to me to be a "cause." The rub comes to does that mean accused of mortgage fraud or convicted of it? But make no mistake he has to right to fire her as you say, under certain circumstances.
joyo...Employee should also have due process.
katl...Trump is a dishonest and continue to manipulate everyone or fires them. So disgraceful and I hope illegal.
jame...Another clear example of Trump trying to take over the Fed and set interest rates. which any person with a brain knows will destroy the US bond market world wide. Might not be an issue since Trump fired the head of the Federal agency which researches and publishing information regarding the state of the US economy (prices, jobs created, unemployment rate etc.) because he did not like the most recent reports. Who can trust future economic reports or Fed decisions? Answer: no rational person. Can't wait to see another Cabinet meeting where every Cabinet member starts off his/her report with "Thanks to your leadership Mr President, the US bond and stock market has collapsed and no one will invest in, or expand, its investment in America because, in addition to not being able to borrow money without a huge risk rate premium, it has no idea of where the US economy is currently or anticipated (by experts) to be in the future.
geoj...Please do Not interfere with independent agencies that need to be independent from political interference!
tpri...if the allegations are true do you want a liar controlling monetary policy? You trust someone who manipulates the system for personal gain?
nmik...Because the Fed Gov directly influences the whole country's fiscal horizon. DEI appointments do not allow careful vetting of this importyant job. If there was a money crime in her past, directly reflects her decision making. Partisanship has no role in business and money decisions.
nanc...I hope Jerome Powell does the right thing and contests this egregious miscarriage of justice. They haven’t even charged her with anything. So wrong!
lion...Allegation happened before term. Due process!!!
kate...Ironic that he makes all these claims yet denies the laundry list of allegations against himself
kvas...Legal? Illegal? I don't know, and neither do most of the readers of your question. And, like them, I'm not going to delve through the federal laws and regulations to reach an informed opinion. Isn't it really a question of whether you think it's a good idea for the president to target individuals for political retribution because he doesn't like their politics or because they dared to question him or because they believe the Fed's independence is critical to its mission purpose? Trump is a moron, and he should keep his stinking paws off the Fed. He should also de-weaponize the DOJ and let them do their job without fear of political retribution.
pjpa...She can’t have financial allegations/crimes & make financial decisions for the country
djmo...I believe the President, in the exercise of his Article II authority, has the power to hire and fire any appointed official. I also believe if tested, the Supreme Court would find any restrictions on this power unconstitutional based upon recent actions and decisions.
schm...He's such an ass
tlos...Trump is off the reservation
cica...Right it says in the constitution you’re in innocent until proven guilty. She hasn’t been proving guilty of anything. Donald Trump was afforded that right and he denies it to everyone else. He’s a disgrace.
artk...This is for the purpose of filling the fed with his lackeys
cger...The Obama's Progressive "Deep State" goes far, wide and deep throughout the DC area. I trust Trump to do everything in his power to save America from these communist.
twin...Like ive said before he is a deflector!!! He will fire anyone who doesnt go along with his agenda! He needs to be impeached!
rojc...Trump has no cause to do this. It is illegal and dangerous
pman...No he doesn’t - this needs to be pushed back and she should find legal ways to stay in her position
vane...They are letting him do anything, why are they scared of a man how let someone else run the country, and he just thinks of a way to make the entire nation miserable DAILY.
chri...This appears to be a politically motivated removal and should not be allowed
book...Trump is out of control
kold...He is a fascist. He cares not about legal authority.
marc...More of trumps efforts to control
pamb...This is just another attempt by Trump to end democracy.
usct...Trump is a man of lawlessness. He is not normal. He is an authoritarian wishing to become dictator.

How concerned are you about the potential economic impact if rare-earth trade conflicts escalate further?

  • 75% Very concerned, could cause widespread disruption
  • 21% Somewhat concerned, manageable impacts
  • 4% Not concerned, impacts will be minimal

EmailComments
cger...Thanks to the mismanagement of the Democrats, they have left America exposed to major disruptions on many fronts. Thank God we have Trump in power to bring America back from the brink the communist have brought us.
tomp...I have been a republican for over 50 years. This is the worst Republican run government I have ever seen!
nmik...You have to understand the impact magnets and rare earth metals have on production. Most people don't understand the impact it would have especially on defense and technology. Essential for the US
jeff...More whiplash!!
cica...Of course, we have TACO in charge so what could possibly go wrong? The guys are blow hard and everyone he negotiate with knows he doesn’t follow through on anything. The Chinese are laughing about this. And they hold the cards.
joyo...So far mostly threats as he frequently backs down and/or just changes his mind.
mdul...I think it is worth noting that, above a certain amount, the size of the tariff is meaningless. If you impose a 200% tariff or a 1000% tariff, it means to cessation of that item's trade in today's environment.
lind...Orange Madman Nutjob on the loose again!!! IMPEACH!!!!!!!
wabs...There needs to be a plan other than "tariffs are a beautiful word".
lora...This will be worked out by Trump. Trump is very smart and he knows what he is doing. The media is trying to make a big deal out this due to the fact they do not like Trump. It is absurd that the main stream media is against our President and against USA. They would not have this freedom any place in the world.
nanc...Show the world what a loser trump is with his promise of being the best deal maker in history. Doesn’t look like that at all.
kvas...If we can just survive three more years of this asshole, things will return to normal eventually
csbr...Trump is about to trash the economy, so who cares.

Given the current mortgage rates and inventory levels, do you think now is a good time to buy a new home?

  • 69% No, it’s better to wait for rates/prices to improve
  • 22% Yes, the market conditions are favorable
  • 9% Unsure

EmailComments
crus...Only rich can buy.
nanc...If you have a mortgage with a low interest rate, you probably want to wait, unless the lower cost will offset the higher interest.
dmis...Interest rates may not be favorable but far from the worst we have seen, indications are that rates will fall making adjustable rate mortgages attractive. In most markets there is a lot of inventory which gives buyers leverage.
kvas...It's always a good time to invest in real estate, at least in California. The question is whether you can afford it. Individual question.
lora...Housing prices are not going down anytime soon and if you wait you will pay more. The higher interest rates today will go down and you can re-finance. However, Interest rates will not go down to 2-3% for a very long time.
cica...The recession is coming if we’re lucky. If we’re not it, it’ll be more like a depression. Kind of like the Miss titled ‘Great Recession’ which was actually a thinly masked minor depression. It was certainly much more than just a recession. Of course Wall Street used it to buy a half-a-million homes for pennies on the dollar. Maybe that’s got something to do with him prices?
kfer...Home prices have increased greatly with no good reason other than demand of buyers with available money. Years of low interest fueled buyers ability extend their debt.

Do you believe tokenized stocks can effectively democratize access to equity markets, or do they pose too many risks for everyday investors?

  • 81% They pose significant risks and can mislead investor
  • 10% They democratize access and empower investors

momz...These are high risk stocks and if you want to take this risk it is upto you. However, if you lose do not complain later and suck up the loss. If you win, you can celebrate that you are the smartest person in the world.
kfer...But digital currencies are same, and they have made millionaires of many, while likely producing losses for others.
tomp...What security backs these asets? Good faith in the seller? This seems like another Ponzi scheme to me.
anni...Limited liquidity and counterparty risk as investment depends on token issuer and the custodian holding the real shares.
aper...Who knows. When the stock market does well it only means the rich are getting richer, the poor poorer, harmful industries are prospering, and existential threats are being neglected.
