cfcu... | All three are important |
dism... | Guns in general, but military/attack weapons specifically, should be strictly controlled in a society/ culture that is “going off of the rails” with no end to this madness in sight. |
wilj... | Too many guns available to everyone |
ag3r... | & improving mental health services. |
sall... | I chose gun control but I’m afraid the cat is out of the bag on guns. There are so many firearms already circulating. Any attempt at curtailing sales would be ineffective at this point. However, strengthening gun control laws could save lives down the road. |
kaki... | I would choose this and gun control. Mental health because I’ve lost family members due to inadequate resources and gun control because it’s obvious and the Constitution has been misread. Malitia is not everyone |
sara... | Technology should have seen him walking into the building where were the cameras and sensors ?? . Mental illness could be a decoy until further . Terrorists are a rising issue since 911 and hyped alert should b reinstated. I trust know one ! |
john... | It's lack of a focus on mental health. People focus on more gun laws when so many laws were broken by this person in his attack. Focus fixing what is broken, Mental health. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" - Einstein |
dsze... | The sheep that want more gun control fail to realize that NYC has the strongest gun control in the country. How did that work out. |
ator... | Gun control measures should include the inability for any person with mental health issues to purchase or own a gun; also deep penalties imposed upon gun sellers (including private individuals who sell or give guns) to anyone with mental health issues. |
esll... | Mentally ill people, when they kill, kill by pushing people onto subway tracks, use a knife, their hands, brick, car, etc. Some medications bring about psychotic reactions, especially in young males. This should be studied and analyzed. |
mich... | No more “thoughts and prayers” which victims would not need if we protected them! Especially our children who are often victims and are not safe at school! |
elli... | Gun control measures cannot be any stricter than in NY. So obviously, they don’t work. Guns don’t kill people. Crazy and evil people kill people |
bstr... | Gun control is MUCH less expensive than increased mental health services and is safer than increasing the number of armed, untrained, and ill trained security guards. |
krip... | Guns like these should not be used outside if the military. Since he has a history if mental illness, perhaps if stricter background checks were enforced he would not have been able to buy such a gun. |
mdwr... | We should be working to understand why people choose to use guns for violent purposes and get them the help they need. Focusing on security and gun control measures won’t help the underlying problems. |
spr.... | It’s crazy to think a high power rifle or machine gun is within the “rights to bear arms”. Accessibility is too easy regardless of mental competency |
lind... | People kill with guns. Make it more difficult for people to purchase guns! Guns Kill!!!! |
best... | He broke multiple laws already in place. Mental health is the cause. Without addressing that core issue we won't help our cities be any safer. |
rmac... | It’s obvious that the majority of people answering these questions are liberals! |
june... | All three are important, however if more steps were taken to restrict guns then the other two wouldn’t be needed. |
kibb... | Any assault type weapon should be illegal and carry a huge penalty for having one even if it is not used in an assault. Stringent licensing under all conditions for gun ownership. LONG waiting periods before getting a gun of any type. Gun shows should not be allowed to sell any guns unless they follow the same strict regulations of any other gun seller. |
cmor... | No guns no deaths, national system that identifies high risk factors such as mental health, h/o incarceration, previous h/o criminal behavior involving gun use |
jamf... | This is more than just "mental health" of an individual. It is a societal and cultural sickness of a population. We need to value the Ten Commandments and other spirituality laws...people no longer have respect for human life!! That's WAY different than "mental health". |
nanc... | D. All of the above. |
milt... | The fact that we continue to experience these shootings and simultaneously encourage virtually unrestricted gun ownership is simply unbelievable. |
mdul... | There is no single initiative that can be undertaken to resolve or even reduce the number of mass shootings in this country. Republicans (typically) point to mental health services being more important than gun control but then take very opportunity to reduce such services with each budget they author. However, even if they allowed such services to be available to the levels needed, one of the essential outcomes would then be restricting access to guns from certain people who are more prone to resort to such violent acts and that is never permissible to Republicans. Since entering office in his second term, Trump has written executive orders rescinding efforts to regulate ghost guns, enhance background checks, and classify certain firearms as not suitable for civilians. He also created the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would require all states to honor concealed carry permits from any other state, effectively overriding state-specific standards and he has rejected any calls for new gun-control legislation. Having access to mental health services and reasonable gun control are both essential to reducing these attacks. However, I think that remains unrealistic and, instead, we need to simply recognize that the US will remain the world leader in gun deaths and we will continue sending thoughts and prayers to the victims. |
liz.... | I can't believe that Congress and our President won't support STRONG gun control laws. It is insane that we Americans are not safe ANYWHERE - not even our children. It makes me SICK. There is absolutely NO SANE reason for it. It is beyond any reasonable doubt that allowing everyone to carry guns around is causing all these needless and tragic deaths. Everyone who doesn't support gun control should lose their job. |
tric... | Improve mental health services along with better workplace security. |
bina... | The poorly regulated and easy access to guns in this country is the single reason for the unpardonable mass killings of innocent people in this country. This does not happen in any other country in the world. 1) No civilian needs an assault style weapon. These should be banned, without exception. 2) Guns cannot get in the hands of people who should not have them. Background check of every person who purchases a gun should be mandatory. 3) This should be treated as an issue of public safety and we should all come together, no matter our political views, to make our representatives change the laws and policies in our states. |
deni... | Both Improving mental help services and gun control. |
akyg... | Non-hunting guns allow for a fast- impersonal method to kill. They should be banned. |
fran... | It's been clearly demonstrated that easy access to guns will raise homicides by guns. Improving mental health services is a must but ppl suffering from severe mental illness should not be stigmatized. We all have moments of imbalance with our mental and physical health. From a physician. |
stev... | improving mental health services is ridiculous. These people will seek it out! Go to control is not the problem, criminals get around it. It sounds to me like he may have had a motive going explicitly for the Blackstone executive. Further investigation is required. Possibly strengthening building and workplace security could help. Overall the choices you gave on comprehensive. |
fnpn... | People fire the weapons. Having more gun control is like saying we need to have CAR control the next time somebody drives through a crowd of people. |
jc44... | Background checks. Limits on handguns and no assault automatics |
tim.... | Selling of assault weapons should be discontinued. Make all manufactures of gun pay billions of dollars like cigarette manufacturers have done. Guns kill immediately. |
jabl... | Guns are not the problem. When guns are ever outlawed then only outlaws will have guns. Mental health facility's have steadily disappeared over the past several decades even though mental health problems have increased. Current gun laws in place are not being enforced effectively so adding more laws at this time will not help. |
cb10... | Gun control measures and mental health services. |
shar... | So many of these and other related shootings involve youth and adults with untreated profound mental health issues. |
lorr... | I think gun control and mental health’s would be best. |
curt... | Further research is urgently needed to determine whether individuals with mental health conditions who commit these violent acts are taking psychotropic medications that may be triggering manic or psychotic episodes. There is growing concern that pharmaceutical interventions could be contributing to a significant portion of these incidents, which appear to be part of an increasingly frequent and troubling trend. |
drow... | The technology exists to require Fingerprints to activate an instrument made for killing. Yet it’s easier to get a weapon for killing than it is a drivers license. Rarely does news report of a good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy. There are multiple murders every week of bad guys killing innocent people. Yet the lobbyists line politicians pockets to allow this. |
lama... | Mental health and social pressures ( many coming from social media) are the root cause. Increased security and gun control are secondary measures. |
carl... | Too many guns in the wrong hands. |
twin... | Thanks to the republicans mental health is in crisis mode. Closing these institutions during the Reagan admin was a big mistake. Now they have no access to mental health and are living on the streets of america!! |
terr... | Every country has people with mental health problems. We're the only country that has a gun violence problem that exists outside of drug cartels, militias, and street gangs. |
tdhu... | I chose “improving mental health services,” but I wish I had the option to choose “all of the above plus other solutions.” The root of violence is multi-pronged and requires multiple answers to reduce it. I don’t believe it is possible to eliminate all acts of violence “once and for all,” though. The idea that we, as a corporate human race, can eliminate the consequences of irrational rage from the psyche of all humans in society is “pie in the sky” idealism. We can work to find ways to reduce it and work to find ways to help heal people from the consequences of it. Our conversations often turn to “gun control” when these things happen, but guns aren’t the only weapons people use to harm and kill others. Do we care about victims of mass knife attacks, for example - less “carnage” and we don’t hear as much about it in the U.S., but still? We want better security, but we don’t we already have a great deal of security in public places (while balancing personal privacy) and should we be talking more about consistent application of our already existing security measures and protocols? |
rmen... | All those prevention actions need to be strengthened |
raym... | We do not need more gun laws. We just need cities and courts uphold the laws we already have. |
ldbo... | People who want to hurt people can and will do it without guns if necessary. People who get support with mental health, emotional management, and coping skills are more likely to stop wanting to hurt people. |
iris... | NY already has strict gun laws. Look at the good it's done them. Address the core of the issue, which is mental health. |
lady... | Stop giving guns to anyone without background checking first! No one should get a gun unless a clean background check. |
jlcg... | All of the above, with an emphasis on seriously curtailing guns availability |
anne... | More comprehensive gun control measures are absolutely necessary, but equally important is improving access to mental health services. |
dave... | Mandatory back ground checks. NO GUN SALES AT EVENTS. Gun crimes carry a mandatory 10 year sentence on top of anything else. Gun violence by minors thru the parents should be prosecuted. Any call for help by parents should be handled by police not family services. Guns are trouble |
mmre... | Maintaining police presence |
dshe... | Outlaw all automatic weapons! |
duph... | All Answers Above!!! |
kc37... | By recognizing people who need more mental health support we can work together as a community to protect them from themselves and protect each of us. A healthy mentation is a right that all people have from birth. The issue is the mental health. It isn't locking people out or in to the workplace or limiting our rights to carry guns. The problem is untreated, unrecognized mental health. An idea would be to provide more mental health coaches in schools. Give kids a classroom that all students attend throughout their day possibly called "life skills". More security can only increase a person's feeling of being insecure about their safety. Being locked in or out creates a feeling of being restricted, being even more challenging for those with mental health issues. Starting early and preparing the child for "bumps" in the road of life is better than trying to smooth out every road. Give them life skills and tools to navigate the road of life and teach each other on the road how to assist each us over "bumps" we trip or fall on. |
jabo... | 1. Gun controls that make sense in our time. 2. Mental health availability to all who live in darkness. 3. Stiff penalties when a gun is used or enters a crime situation. We are not making enough positive headway when guns are used by people at large. |
bjta... | Gun control doesn't work. Look at New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Boston. All have stiff gun control measures in place. Look at the gun related crimes in those cities. Chicago and New York City both have high rates of gun crime. In addition these are the same cities that reduced the number of police officers on the street and instituted DEI as part of the hiring practice. Mental health services and more police on the street are a far better solution. |
tipf... | We ignore the mentality ill until they hurt someone and then we wonder why no one did anything to stop them. |
