Poll Results and Comments : Epstein Files Spark Firestorm, Columbia's $200M Settlement and Pistachios at Night

Anna's Daybreak News

Just facts, you think for yourself

Given the DOJ’s decision to withhold most Epstein-related documents citing victim privacy and sensitive content, do you believe the public interest outweighs privacy concerns in this case?

  • 77% Public interest should take priority; documents should be released
  • 15% Privacy and legal protections should be maintained; documents should remain sealed
  • 7% Unsure

sean...Many of the victims have spoken out.
ambe...Victim names can be redacted, protecting their identities while still releasing names and details about the perpetrators and their acts.
kenn...They can redact info that identifies victims.
boba...Celebrity names CEO’s and people of significant public responsibilities should be released.Inocent and victims’s names should be redacted
fick...Find the criminals!
atli...Generally I favor the release of and declassification of 100% of all government documents with appropriate redacting to protect victims. But the current administration admittedly denies the facts as they claim that the ends justify any means which would permits them to redact any facts they wish to conceal.
patr...Sexually abusing women and children should not be tolerated. This behavior should never be allowed in the presidency seat. We would like to know the truth.
lind...The file should be released to the House of Representatives and sensitive material related to the victims should be redacted.
btaw...Redact victim names and release the files to expose the Pedos!
tomp...Most of the people I talk to would rather focus on the economy and inflation . The issue is in the past and frankly most of us don't care.
tubi...the victims names need not be mentioned. but dumb donald the pedophile and his like all need brought to light.
robo...It’s not so much that public interest should take priority. The victims deserve to have the perpetrators face justice. They shouldn’t release the victims names, but everyone else should be named and prosecuted for their crimes.
mdul...I understand people's desires to see the salacious material but it serves little purpose. Trump has fueled a conspiracy theory that the deep state withheld the Epstein files since so many famous people were on the list that were part of the cabal. That is like catnip to MAGA, thus leading to the rift in the views of Trump's supporters now that he is refusing to release the information and it comes to light that he knows his name figures prominently. Even asking the courts to unseal grand jury testimony was just a PR act to make it seem like he had no problem with the release, knowing that the courts cannot approve the release unless the case were to fall into very specific exceptions and the DOJ attorney didn't even try to make this case fit. So, Trump clearly does not want the information released. However, even if it were to finally be made public, does it matter? The courts have already found he committed sexual assault, he's been found guilty of criminal fraud, he's openly boasted of more sexual assault and of enjoying the benefits of being allowed to walk behind stage to see nude 14-16 year old girls, he's been barred from running any charitable organization because of additional fraud, and so on. Will it really make any difference if the files show that he was complicit with Epstein in these cases? There truly is nothing that will sway his supporters away from him and his message, in classic cultish style. So, the few remaining courts actually adhering to the law should weigh the petitions and find in this case just like any other, no matter which outcome that creates.
pjpa...Of course Trump’s name appears in the files bc he threw Epstein out of MarALago bc he was soliciting young female patrons & Trump has called for the release of all info that wouldn’t victimize the young girls & their families
tere...It ain’t the crime, it’s the coverup
jpwp...If the documents could reveal a coordinated, structured and criminal enterprise in political, legal, law enforcement and care services or misconduct that is questionable of the electorate insofar as it could place a challenge on their fitness to hold such public positions, then it is right to release in public interest, pure sensationalism that only affects the victim is not in the interest. That said, in this instant I think a full unredacted release is the only action acceptable.
barr...The names of victims can be redacted.
cica...All the files need to be released. Not just grand Jury testimony. Not cherry pick to exclude Donald Trump’s name. Every single page needs to be released the case in Florida prosecuted by Alex Acosta needs to be released that was settlement was completely fraudulent
andr...Once again, we see privacy protections for the government, while individuals are spied on by our government. I like that people are asking for transparency on this particular case - likely based on hatred for Trump versus hatred of government obfuscating how it operates. All that said, intelligence is likely at the heart of this entire case - and most Americans have no clue.
nanc...By not releasing all the documents, the distrust continues to grow. Come clean with the information so we can all move on.
cfto...If you're truly innocent then releasing the documents should not harm you. Only someone that is concerned of their own guilt would block their release.
jose...Trump is hiding his terrible behavior!
lste...So, we’d like to know if the president is a legal dirtbag or an illegal dirt bag? Leave them sealed.
cssl..."Sensitive Content" is not a valid reason to withhold closed cases. Victim Privacy may be, but has the DOJ or all these highly paid attorneys ever heard of redacted reports? Happens all the time in Florida.
kris...Release the files!!! That’s why you were elected. Next election vote “anybody else but these m*therfuckers.” No more Dems, no more Republicans and no more independents. Everybody got to go and start fresh. Time to really drain the swamp, Trump including all career politicians. SMDH! Trump got some nerve not releasing those files and trying to act like it’s fake news now. Nope, there is no more dangling the low hanging fruit. They all need to be held accountable. And get the f*ck outta here trying to distract the American people with treats to go after the Obama’s. I swear anyone who believes this sh*t is dumber than a box of rocks. Nobody’s going to jail, these politicians get away with everything and everyone in power facilitates and covers it all up, and pretends they are trying to get justice. Stop being naive, wake up!
cdma...The US has become a banana republic due to Donald J Trump's involvement in politics. I believe he has forever reduced our credibility and our past position as "the land of the free and the home of the brave". I worry about the future my grand children will live in.
dave...easy name the adult participants and redact the minors name but put their age in such as this female A age 12 was found to be or Male age 13 was found to be with Adult name.
alic...I was not talking about the grand jury testimony. It should remain sealed for a reason I have not seen mentioned anywhere. If the testimony is unsealed, in future criminal cases, why would anyone be willing to testify before a grand jury? While testimony can be compelled that is true only up to a point. A cooperating witness is noncooperating. The DOJ files should be released, with victim's names (and only those names) redacted.
blik...Who else’s name was “found multiple times”? Bias alert! I am near a point of unsubscribing, Anna.
jbgo...Only if it’s for further need in court.
2ali...Just because 'curious minds want to know', we should set aside victim protection protocol and our code of ethics? Good luck getting victims to come forward at this rate!
aran...The victims want this material released.
gray...Our so called President is involved in that mess we the people have the right to know how crooked he is. I feel for the victims.
angi...I don’t like how the media and apparently your organization drop a”Trump s name appeared”. that may have absolutely nothing to do with Trump being on Epstein Island, or affiliated with Epstein. I’m sure lots of people‘s names appeared in affiliation with Epstein that had nothing to do with being on Epstein Island or his disgusting behaviors. Obama’s , Clinton’s, 1/2 of Hollywood……….
twin...We are talking about the us pres being involved in MORE ILLEGAL activities!!! THATS WHY THE TRUTH NEED BE TOLD!!
jjgo...Let the truth be told .
vtgr...Everything needs to see the light of day.
lora...many people may have known or done business with Epstein but that does mean they did anything illegal or participated in sex capades with the man. Those who participated in the sex capades should be prosecuted on an individual basis.
kind...True Conservatives would never stand for a President exercising this much power over our checks and balances. Trump is effectively taking our culture back 50 plus years peeling back rights people most don’t even understand. What’s worse is he’s using women and minorities by giving them feigned power to make changes to policy thereby masking the ultimate consequences. No one in his administration stands for integrity of the law or our countries core values!
deni...Aren't there laws about these things? Why is releasing these files different than any other criminal proceeding files? The law and court proceedings should not be treated like a reality TV show. If there is evidence of criminal activity in the files, those people should be arrested and brought to trial. If there is not such evidence, then what is the point of releasing the files other than to appeasee public need for gossip and sensationalism. Victims should bring charges which is their right. Beyond that, public need to get a life and mind their own business. Releasing info that is none of our business impacts family members who had nothing to do with their family member's behavior. They should not have to suffer to satisfy public interest for information that the public will talk about for a week but the family members will be impacted for years.
tjaw...Open the windows! Time for some fresh air.
skyy...15.7% = hardcore MAGA ; 7.% = morons who need someone else to tell them how they should think. It’s a black and white issue, there really isn’t a gray area.
lisa...It’s about time Trump got called to the carpet for his lies
joyo...Maybe should not be revealed publicly but only to those that need to know to make informed decisions regarding participants in possible crimes.
tdhu...Tough call, but there has been bipartisan agreement that files should remain sealed. Democrats wanted these files sealed when Democrats held the White House and now a GOP White House continues that trend. Victim privacy should always be a priority. Just because names are mentioned as having an association of some limited degree with Epstein does not mean that the individuals named participated in any criminal activities facilitated by Epstein. Do we really need to satisfy lascivious public curiosity or partisan flame-throwing while re-igniting the pain of innocent victims?
milt...Never once have we heard Trump take responsibility for anything. Blame is deflected by pointing the finger. His victimhood is disguising. He fits the profile of an abuser. Releasing the docs, redacted for children and victim name, is pass due.
octa...This is such a dramatic 180 for Republicans, who were calling for blood of any predators named in those files, only to backpedal so hard they've fallen over since Trump is one of the named predators.
lkdn...But individual names of female VICTIMS should be redacted
mjhe...Please, the release of these documents could be his ousting and our country's saving grace.
af.a...You can do both (Jane Doe, 12 yo from AZ) - testified Donald J Trump asked….
bjta...There is no reason these files should be withheld from the American public. Let the cards fall where they may with respect to powerful people. If they were part of the sexual exploitation of minors then they need to be held accountable. Remember the old Democratic adage "No one is above the law". Let's see how this plays out wherever Bubba Clinton gets his subpoena.
godi...Can’t they release the documents with the victims’ names redacted?
ned....Will NEVER see the truth ! Can you say coverup !
csbr...It’s obvious Trump was a pedophile and child rapist, as were many others associated with Epstein. Trying to utilize their wealth and privilege to keep it covered up. Anyone defending them are enablers of pedophilia aka MAGA for pedophiles.
fkor...Child abuse should never be covered up! Bring out the truth!
sara...The judge was correct to not unseal grand jury files, which are focused on only 3 of the hundreds of victims, and which protect witnesses and victims. The full DOJ and SDNY files should be released in some controlled fashion to a special prosecutor's office to determine whether a coverup has taken place, and whether additional charges for Epstein related actions by unknown parties, or coverup activities by DOJ have taken place ad should be prosecuted.
trag...The files can be released with steps taken to redact identifying information on the victims. For instance, first names could remain and last names hidden. There is a lot at stake here and the public has a right to know who they are dealing with in the.White House and elsewhere in the government. While it is unlikely that Trump and his associates will receive sanctions for their behavior, the public needs to see what is being covered up and by whom. Hopefully this awareness will have consequences at the polls. Trump has lied about his involvement with Epstein - one minute he knows him as a great guy and then asserts that he no longer has associations with that loser. He says he knew nothing about his name appearing in the files and then we find out that Bondi had advised him that his name appeared multiple times. I don’t trust Trump. I don’t think he cares about the citizens of this country and places his own interests before those of the citizens. His lies and distortions of the truth are unacceptable and compound my mistrust. Others need to see another layer or two about the man who was elected president and the people who perpetuate his misrepresentations of the truth. If he doesn’t have anything to hide he wouldn’t be hiding these documents.
kpri...In this case, exposing criminal activity, supersede any potential perceived harm to the victims.
avaa...Rich old white men knowing they are underage and still did things and think they should be entitled to keep it a secret should be public
jamf...The child victims must not be disclosed w/out consent.
sara...If our president is involved illegal in anyway, regarding the Epstein files, the public should be made aware.
hraw...You can release the documents and black out the victims names for their protection. If any officials or governmental names are on the list. We the people should know and those people should be prosecuted
asma...House committee could review files and omit victim names to maintain privacy.
ezed...He’s a liar and has no morals He doesn’t deserve to be president He should be in jail
sjbe...Only the names of the victims should remain private. The public has a right to know what politicians and business leaders were involved with Epstein and the extent of that involvement. If any are being blackmailed it may be a matter of national security. Any client or participant in Epstein’s crimes should resign and face prosecution.
g.sa...The privacy of the victims must be protected and redacted. As far as Trump, what is the goal, there are no surprises, he lacks character, nothing new.
jlcg...What documents? The only one really interresting at this point is Florida's State Attorney's hand book where he noted who called or wrote him to recommend a very lenient deal for Epstein after his first arrest.
amia...Not sure why this has now become so important? Prurient interest? Jeffrey Epstein died on August 10, 2019 - 6 years ago. Where were the Demos and the media for the past 6 years? I guess some brainiacs have decided that the guy who authorized the release of the data, is front & center in the list of shameful “participants”. Even Trump is not that stupid. A vote in the H of Reps? Why? A rogue, picayune, small minded – small contingent group, off the rails – nothing more important? There are courts to deal with these matters, assuming there is even anything to deal with. Cui bono?
kitt...This appears to be just one gigantic coverup - the biggest and most beautiful coverup in the history of this country! Greater than anything that has ever been covered up before!

Do you think a 15% tariff on EU imports to the US strikes the right balance between protecting domestic industries and maintaining trade relations?

  • 56% Yes, it’s a fair compromise
  • 44% No, it’s either too high or too low

EmailComments
dona...Tariff wars are a ridiculously terrible way to manage international trade.
tomp...just another windmill tilting effort tha impacts the poor and the middle class and the super rich don't care. The pipe dream of reviving US factories cannot happen over night and probably won't occur in our lifetime.
blik...Germany has been using their tarriffs and VAT $ as stiff barriers against American goods since ??? For an ally, they sure behave like pricks.
cica...Tariffs are a tax on the American people. This is why we now still have inflation after all of the promises to the contrary.
jeff...Too high.
pjpa...EU needs to start paying for US military protection
lind...Tariffs will make good more expensive domestically and should not be deployed by one developed economy against another. That is idiotic.
tubi...stupid options for answer choices. it needs to balance with whatever tariffs theyre charging for US products.
gm11...There should not be any tariffs period!
davi...Why are we protecting domestic industry from the EU— they have higher labor costs than we do. This is just a tax on Americans.
atli...Any agreement arrived at by threatening pain that could then be avoided if demands are met is not negotiation but extortion. The US will suffer in the long run for such unethical behavior.
jose...Tariffs should be targeted, not a blanket on all goods.
amia...If USA cannot produce it more cheaply then tariff and let "the people" pay for its own industries' inefficiency? There is a better way but it takes more effort than introducing a tariff. "Hi, I'm from the government and I am here to help"
tayl...It’s too high. Tariffs are an outdated tool not suited for today’s globally connected market. The tariff actions by the trump administration are causing higher prices for American consumers and threaten to take the economy into recession
sara...Its ridiculous. We have had a very low tariff rate (around 1%)on most goods from the EU, since they are our allies and major trading partners. This is a huge increase, which will show up particularly in pharmaceuticals and other necessary goods. Targeted tariffs on specific products -- which we had in place already to even out trade imbalances related to favored treatment of specific sectors by EU governments - make sense, but this random across the board imposition is just incredible self destructive.
bill...It’s a tax on goods the consumer will pay for
bjta...The 15% tariff on EU imports to the US plus quotas on steel and aluminum imports is a fair rebalancing of trade. For far too long Europe has taken advantage of a US open market while utilizing tariffs to restrict US goods coming into Europe. It's about time we level the playing field. This should have been done years ago.
akyg...I don’t like tariffs. Except possibly for national defense materials.
sopa...This is socialist mercantilism. It's very bad for the common people. It's elitist negociation. Far from democratic concerns.
lkdn...If the USA wants to reduce the trade deficit then we should make better products at reasonable prices unless the competition is getting government subsidies that the American products don’t get
john...There is no rational reason to charge higher tariffs on all imports from the EU. Should be zero.
btaw...No, no, no! Inflation caused by tariffs which are borne by consumers

Which perspective do you find more convincing regarding this settlement?

  • 62% It sets a troubling precedent for government control over academia
  • 25% It is a positive step to address antisemitism and restore justice
  • 13% Both points have validity; the issue is complex

patc...There has been little evidence produced showing Jewish students were harassed, harmed or discriminated against. Are campus protests against a foreign government’s policies now illegal? It’s not like the University was making business deals worth hundreds of millions with the middle easterners funding Hamas.
cica...MARA: make America Russia again. That’s what Trump wants and that’s what the Christian nationalist want. Maybe it’s MATT: make America the Taliban? Let’s make it a the theocracy. just like Afghanistan.
jose...Trump is a bully!
sara...Its not about antisemitism - a position they don't mind at all when it is promoted by their neonazi allies. It is just straight ahead bullying by morons of those they perceive as "elite"
patr...And extortionists - in this case the government - always want more.
bjta...The Woke ultraliberal DEI institutions who garner taxpayer funds need to accept government inspection and guidance. Otherwise don't accept any money from the government and do as you please.
crai...These results show a concerning alignment of your audience with antisemitic beliefs and terrorist groups. Alarming
emil...Student protests have always led the way to progress in this country. Taking away that right is against the constitution. Jewish students were not the target. The Israeli government is.
kvas...Whoever trades their civil rights for security deserves neither. Universities should be smarter (than Orange Boy? Well, duh) than to kowtow to a pathetic megalomaniac like Trump
vtgr...The First Amendment right to freedom of speech needs to be upheld.
csbr...Israel is killing children and civilians not associated with Hamas. The Israeli government and IDF iare a state sponsored terrorist organization and should be eliminated by any means necessary.
dona...It's just another example of Trump administration overreach into matters that do not concern them.
aran...It's essential to address prejudice against Jews, but that's not what this is about. This is about people who could care less about prejudice against Jews and are weaponizing the term "anti-Semitism" in order to claim a little moral high ground for their hatred of the intelligentsia and their Islamo/xenophobia. It's as cheap as it gets. Not in my name.
trag...I understand why Columbia capitulated to Trump- he holds the key to millions of much needed dollars. Putting the financial wellbeing of the school before beliefs about how the school ought to be run. It smacks of selling one’s soul to the devil to reap financial benefits. I fail to see the connection between withholding funds and curbing antisemitism. It’s just a way for Trump to bully the school into compliance and give him a sense of power and control, the idea that he is winning his platform of vengeance. If anything, this approach only serves to increase antisemitism as these drastic measures are seen as the fault of the Jews. No Jews-No withholding of funds and all the detrimental consequences that accompany these cuts. If Mr Trump really wanted to address antisemitism he could insist that the University engage consultants to help deal with antisemitism. He could commission an in-depth study of the causes of antisemitism and the results of various measures taken to reduce the problem. We Jews don’t have a monopoly on being the targets of hatred- we share that “ honor” with many other minorities and they should be included in any steps taken to address prejudice and hatred. Taking away funding only makes matters worse and illustrates how people surrender to their oppressors.
jamf...People first! Our Jewish brothers and sisters deserve better...NO antisemitism acceptable or they are complicit in crimes against humanity!
kjla...Trump controlling universities is obscene
8rbo...Schools have responsibility to control behavior while promoting critical thinking and freedom of thought. Promoting free speech does not mean accepting all manner of expression therefore actions that effectively intimidate limit freedoms of other students should note be condoned or tolerated.
joll...Israel is not the victim! Blood on their hands! Ethnic cleansing. Mass starvation. Palestinians are Semites! Zionist are racist extremists! Why do we have to protect this racist ideology. Israel should be criticized- because it promotes racism and it is responsible for war crimes.
ned....Freedom of speech ?
amia...Who better? The institutions have proved themselves inept, incapable and complicit. Troubling precedent my ass! Government is a backstop when laws are not enforced.
cb10...Every university needs to push back on this bully and rotten administration.
barb...Antisemitism on college campuses has to stop.
nanc...Go Harvard! Columbia will continually be forced to cow to this administration at every turn.
lkdn...Using antisemitism as an excuse for penalizing academia is a farce. This is simply Trump retribution against prestigious institutions
perm...Too many upper level colleges and universities are engaging in and encouraging indoctrination rather than education. Extreme bias and anti American rhetoric are eroding the credibility of these institutions and creating a dangerous environment for students and faculty. Free speech DOES NOT cover any act of aggression or violence. It is far past time for these institutions and individuals be held accountable for allowing such an atmosphere of hatred.
tubi...anti-israel is not antisemitism.

Germany’s defense budget is set to nearly triple by 2029, a significant departure from its historical cautious approach. Do you think this increased spending is justified?

  • 77% Yes, given rising global security threats, it’s necessary
  • 13% Depends on how effectively the funds are used
  • 10% No, the focus should remain on diplomacy and non-military solutions

nanc...If Russia takes Ukraine, they won’t be far from Germany.
lkdn...All NATO countries need to step up support for Ukraine. In particular, Europe is more inclined to give Ukraine offensive weapons
atli...What has become of any interest in grooming a peaceful world? What country gave NATO authority to override its sovereignty?
cica...The United States is no longer reliable strategic partner, so yes, all of Europe needs to begin spending more on their own security. We should continue to support them as best we can. But the American voter can no longer be trusted to make reasonable choices.
mdul...If I were Germany's Chancellor, I would be pressing for dramatic increases as well. It's possible that Trump will disallow future elections and make himself POTUS for life in which case the Trump influence is not going away any time soon. Even if that extreme doesn't happen, it's clear that the US is no longer a reliable partner, either for trade or defense. I would direct the increased defense spending towards building Germany's, and the EU's, own defense industry and reducing buying from the world's largest arms dealer - the USA.
bjta...It is about time Germany and the rest of Europe start contributing to NATO and the defense of their countries. They have taken advantage of the US since WWII.
