atli...	The US should as a matter of policy reduce its stockpiles of weapons separately from consideration of Ukraine. Ukraine never needed to happen and an end to the fighting should be pursued. The amount of US weapons available for its own use will only encourage their use in another conflict involving the US under the pretext of "defense". Good business for the war contractors.

The remainder funded replenishing U.S. weapon stockpiles, training, refilling equipment, and humanitarian assistance—mostly benefiting the U.S. defense industry, not Ukraine directly. Trump’s cabinet stated recent pauses (including Patriot missiles, HIMARS munitions, Hellfires, 155 mm rounds) were due to resource contention, claiming U.S. forces couldn’t sustain both their own needs and shipments to Ukraine. Pentagon officials and general staff, however, described these pauses differently. They said it was a “global stockpile review”, rather than a strict resourcing conflict—they emphasized replenishment and strategic priorities alongside readiness for other theaters. Bottom line with all of this is that the US has succeeded in replenishing its own needs and sending aging equipment that would soon be written off to Ukraine. We are not in an either/or situation and can continue supporting Ukraine's needs. Finally, let's also not forget that the recently approved ICE budget alone is larger than the entire military budget of Russia. We can certainly afford to remain true to our obligations under the Budapest Memorandum.

The U.S. has no national interest in continuing to feed Ukraine's insatiable need for weapons (even defense weapons) given its outright refusal to negotiate a peace with Russia to end the slaughter. Only a few years ago, Ukraine was deemed by the U.S. as corrupt nation and declined an opportunity to resolve its dispute with Russia.

Trump's continued moving of the goalposts suggests that might well be true. He said, within one week of his Liberation Day declaration of tariffs, that 200 countries had called to negotiate deals and it would be easy to get 90 done in 90 days. Then, someone on his team told him that there weren't even 200 countries on the list so he revised and said 70 had called. Then his Treasury Secretary said 50 had called and were well underway and more would easily follow. His son said that he would hate to be a citizen of any country that wasn't first on the list of new bilateral trade deals. So, after 90 days and 1 trade deal done and 1 trade framework done, now he escalates tariffs on two of our best allies, after having already targeted the two best allies. Somehow, though, MAGA will say this is all OK and use some kind of justification.
