Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

President Trump announced the U.S. will send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine to counter intensified Russian missile and drone attacks. The European Union and NATO will fully reimburse the U.S. for the costs.

The quantity of systems was not disclosed. Trump criticized Russian President Putin and noted failed ceasefire talks since January 2025.

A bipartisan bill in Congress proposes tariffs up to 500% on countries supporting Russia, including China, India, and Brazil. Senators are also pushing to release $5 billion in frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.

US Online Sales Hit $24.1 Billion

U.S. online sales from July 8–11 reached $24.1 billion, up 30.3% year-over-year, exceeding forecasts. Amazon Prime Day extended to 96 hours led the surge, with Walmart, Target, and Best Buy offering overlapping promotions.

Mobile purchases accounted for 53.2% of sales. Apparel discounts rose to 24%, electronics near 23%. Two-thirds of purchases were under $20; average household spent $156. Higher-priced items over $100 made up only 3%.

Consumers stocked up early for back-to-school despite ongoing trade tensions and looming tariffs. Some brands cut back on pricier imports.

Given that two-thirds of purchases were under $20, does this reflect smart budgeting or a trend toward lower-value, less meaningful consumption?

The pattern is clear: when innovative companies successfully integrate AI into everyday products, tech giants pay billions to acquire them. Google paid $3.2B for Nest. Amazon spent $1.2B on Ring. LG just acquired startup Homey, signaling their move into the smart home.

Now, a new AI-powered smart home company is following their exact path to acquisition—but is still available to everyday investors at just $2.00 per share. With proprietary technology that connects smart shades to all major AI ecosystems, this startup has achieved what big tech wants most: seamless AI integration into daily home life.

Over 10 patents, 200% year-over-year growth, and a forecast to 5x revenue this year — this company is moving fast to seize the smart home opportunity. The acquisition pattern is predictable. The opportunity to get in before it happens is not.

August 1 Tariff Deadlines on Key Partners

The US will impose tariffs by August 1 on key partners, including 30% on Mexican and EU imports, with potential increases on steel, aluminum, and autos.

South Korea seeks a deal to ease tariffs, offering agricultural market access but wanting US steel and auto tariffs removed; its trade surplus with the US rose 25% in 2024. Mexico, heavily reliant on US exports, opposes the tariffs but remains open to negotiation.

The EU faces a $235 billion US trade deficit and prepared retaliation targeting up to €93 billion in US goods. The standoff endangers $9.5 trillion in US-EU business.

Is imposing steep tariffs on essential trading partners an effective way for the US to reduce its trade deficits?

Kentucky Shooting Spree

A Kentucky state trooper was wounded during a traffic stop after a license plate alert near Blue Grass Airport.

The suspect carjacked a vehicle and drove to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he fatally shot two women, ages 72 and 34, both related and connected to the church’s pastor. Two men were also shot, one critically injured. The suspect was killed by police at the church. The trooper remains in stable condition.

Authorities suspect the shooter had ties to people at the church. The FBI and ATF are investigating. Kentucky officials expressed condolences and commended first responders.

Neurobiology Behind Psychopathy

MRI scans of 39 men with psychopathy revealed a 1.45% reduction in total brain volume compared to controls.

Higher antisocial behavior scores (Factor 2) correlated with reduced volumes in the basal ganglia, thalamus, basal forebrain, brainstem, cerebellum, orbitofrontal, and insular cortex—regions involved in emotion regulation, decision-making, and impulse control. Interpersonal-affective traits (Factor 1) showed weaker, inconsistent brain differences.

The right subiculum, part of the hippocampus, exhibited the most pronounced localized volume loss. Results suggest widespread brain structural deficits underpin antisocial behaviors in psychopathy. Limitations include small sample size and confounding factors like substance use.

Do you believe psychopathy is primarily caused by neurobiological factors (brain differences) or by environmental influences such as upbringing?

First Signs of Ovarian Cancer

Mayo Clinic researchers identified early cellular changes in the fallopian tubes of a high-risk patient with BRCA2 and TP53 mutations, signaling initial ovarian cancer development before symptoms.

Using single-cell RNA sequencing, they found an imbalance favoring secretory cells over multiciliated cells, driving chronic inflammation linked to cancer. The absence of progesterone receptors suggests oral contraceptives may not prevent cancer in all patients.

Mayo Clinic established a living fallopian tube biobank for studying ovarian cancer origins. The research aims to create early detection methods, personalized prevention, and improved surgical and fertility guidance to catch ovarian cancer before it spreads, potentially improving survival.

Should genetic testing for mutations like BRCA2 and TP53 become a standard recommendation for all women over a certain age?

Well, every man is born with a special gift, but most are like a fish that has taken a powerful notion to go mountain climbing; you can admire the ambition of the thing, but it is a mighty sorry spectacle to watch. A man must find the one thing he was made for and grab it with both hands, for if he spends his life fighting his own nature, he'll find out too late that he's lost the only war he was ever certain to win.
